I am surprised you didn't recognize that the voice of Prince Vultan as Boss Nass from the Star Wars prequels. If I remember right, Flash Gordon originally was a polo player when it game out as a pulpy magazine/comic book in the 1930's. It makes sense that they would change him to a football player for the 1980 movie. George Lucas was trying to make the movie first but couldn't get the rights, so he then created Star Wars. I recognized the actress who played Dale, Melody Anderson, from a super fun movie called Firewalker (1986) that starred Chuck Norris and Louis Gossett Jr. It is not a good movie, but I still love it and I think you would get a kick... out of it.
