I agree completely with you, it would have been almost impossible to convince the boys (especially Dean!) that ripping out Nancy's heart was the way to go. I also agree completely with Dean's line when Sam says that if they don't do it, everyone else outside will die and Dean says, "That doesn't mean we throw out the rule book and stop acting like humans." 100% that. Because if you're willing to take an innocent girl, hold her down, and slice out her beating heart while she watches - sorry, you've already lost the war - demons won. Great reaction!!
