Why hello there, Monday is here and time for the weekly update. Today is a little late in the post because last night I was testing the gold image of Chapter 1. Everything was looking great until I hit the WMP event. Quick backstory; I tested another version on Friday on my crappy surface book. Played from start to finish and was smooth. Did some very minor tweaks and updates to spelling errors, changed some wording to fit better. Very minor stuff. So I'm looking at it and ready to stamp this for final approval, but decided to give it one more play. This time I tested it on a laptop that has a dedicated GPU and for some strange reason, the WMP had some serious lag. You'd hover over things and it just was horrid... Not sure if the GPU revealed something or what, but the tests I've been doing on my main computer didn't really show this nor did it on my surface. But, like I said before, I'm a perfectionist and I need to figure out what is going on. I want the experience to be as smooth as possible for everyone.
So I reviewed my code and spent several hours revising and updating it as well as some of the images used. And my god, it runs so much more smooth! COMPLETELY lag free! After, I was able to complete the playthrough a final time. It has been a very long journey and looking back at August, when I first started. It's a feeling that I can't explain to see how janky, cheap things looked and how much better or official things look now. I wished I kept a copy of the old GUI compared to now. It looked like one of those old flash games from way back haha. But now Artemis looks like something official, at least in my eyes. This has been so much fun! And over the last few days, I've already been conceptualizing Chapter 2.
with that, I am proud to finally announce that Artemis will be released tomorrow March 23 2021! This version will be free to the public and all future updates will be available to $10 tier patrons. I'm going to go over some of the campaign stuff, choose renders to accompany where I plan to post this first release.
take care,
