The Future of DiBS and Roadmap
Added 2021-06-05 13:29:58 +0000 UTCHey hey. It's boring time.
Time to share what to expect for the final version of DiBS.
--- Expectations: ---
- Total playtime: A short, sweet 1-hour experience.
- The final gameplay loop: a run-and-gun where the reward is getting boned by new creatures. Oh, and cinema tapes (but you already knew that).
- ---- There will be very little backtracking, and when you do, backtracking should be meaningful. (E.g., Getting the cinema tape in the mall and backtracking to the cinema.)
- ---- You've played this game loop in 0.0.80, except the final version will have more creatures, tapes, a final boss, fast travel, etc.
- How the game looks now is how it'll look in the end. A few small changes can be done, but as a whole, the aesthetics will remain the same. Wonderful for maintaining scope.
- NO pregnancy, g*re, sc*t, waterstuff, inflation, whatsoever.
- Once again, the final release of the game will be free!
--- Roadmap Overview ---
Monthly releases are back!
- (Except if it's new levels. If there are new levels, we'll do another renovation again.)
A Total of 12 Planned Creatures + 1 Final Boss.
- There are currently seven (7) in-game, with five (5) creatures left to make.
- One (1) creature is usually one (1) month's work. Five (5) months of dev-time.
- The final boss will likely take longer, three (3) months.
8 Cinema Tapes.
- One tape is already done, so seven (7) more to go.
- Usually takes a whole month to make a cinema animation, so give or take seven (7) months dedicated to just making cinema animations.
2+ More Areas
- Levels are time-consuming, so the final months of development are dedicated to just the levels.
Finally, some gameplay features and Quality of Life improvements. More can be added, but these are guaranteed to be in the game.
- Different stage saucy-animations (Slow, medium, fast)
- Elevator/Tram system (Essentially fast travel)
- Saving and reloading
- Options
- ---- Controls: Key remapping
- ---- Master Volume
- ---- ---- Music Volume
- ---- ---- Voice Volume
- ---- ---- SFX Volume
- ---- Display: Fullscreen
- ---- Game
- ---- ---- No bullet spread
- ---- ---- "Family is Around" Mode
- ---- ---- ---- Replaces the pause screen with a screenshot of vanilla chrome, so you can safely tab out.
Considering all of this, we'll hopefully finish by 2023. But since this is gamedev, it's more likely to be finished in 2024.
--- Roadmap Proper ---
- The roadmap will show the first 6 months. This timeframe is concrete enough for content creation, while also flexible enough for me to choose what to do next.
- The 7th month is used to catch my breath, review the previous months, and then schedule for the next 6-month cycle.
The Months (The First 7 Months)
June
- Creature Creation: Umbrella
July
- Creature Creation: ??? (Winner of Upcoming June Creature Vote)
August
- Making Cinema Tape Animation
September
- Making Cinema Tape Animation
October
- Game systems
November
- Game systems
December
- Review on next priority.
- Cinema / Creature Creation / Bugfixes / Etc. for December.
- Schedule what to do for the next 6 months.
---
Anyway, that's it!
There will be more roadmaps after the 7th month, but until then, this is what we will expect to see, for now.
Thank you for sticking around. I don't think DiBS would be developed at the rate that this is.
Being able to see this idea come to reality is really satisfying. For that, thank you.
Once again the next update will still be on June 30!

Nice, really like how you schedule your dev work.
