GoComics 1

I've been doing this comic thing for awhile, and a lot of my earlier stuff is incredibly lame/tame/boring. But you know who loves lame/tame/boring comics? Many of the readers on GoComics! (Not all the readers, but their biggest demographic is the type that thinks Pearls Before Swine is 'spicy')

So with that in mind, I've decided to redraw some of the incredibly old oldies and post them on GoComics. And I figure, why not post them here, as well!

All that being said though, I actually debated about just rereleasing this specific comic to the non-GoComics world at large. But it's a bit too basic. I try to add a bit more twists and turns in my comics these days, whereas this one just sits there like a moderately funny stump.

I don't know, maybe I've just been staring at it for too many years.

Whatever the case, please enjoy!

Despite being on GoComics, I have no idea what their standards are either lol. They never told me. Perry Bible Fellowship is on there, but it seems like he avoids posting his harsher stuff, so I just follow that lead and censor any nudity or fucks. As for GoComics strategy, I It probably has to do with their focus on newspaper comics, which are SUPER stagnant and risk averse. But that market has an expiration date, that's coming up fast. Comics have shifted hard, where underground style comix are part of the mainstream online. And I'm hoping one of the big platforms figure that out, instead of focusing entirely on Boys Love (*cough* Tapas *cough*), cutesy #relatable stuff aimed at 12 year olds (*cOUGH* Webtoons *CouGH*), and boomers (GoComics, no cough)

yeah that's a good point. And I think switching the character to the creepy little girl helps

It's good, sometimes less is more as they say. It's actually fun to leave it to the readers imagination sometimes and I think this one in particular works that way.

I don’t know what GoComics standards are (do they ban nudity, violence, etc., would something like Three Word Phrase be hosted there?) but their marketing and homepage is so boring. They constantly have “Shirley and Son” on their “classics” and the blandest editorials as their promos. I love their ability to group comics so you can have them all on one page, but they do zero promotion for any of the interesting stuff on there. If you look at what some of the comics hosted there do independently on Instagram and Patreon, you’d think they’d have a vested interest in converting those readers into subscribers.
