He went and surprised me with it yesterday!

Wonderful game, absolutely dreadful atmosphere (and everything else). Loving the unhinged Marrow thumb by Crim

Haven't finished it yet but this is both very well done and quite disturbing. You might want to add trigger warnings for suicide and SA to this. Pff.

yeeesh, what a game. Love watching the playthough, it was really a super effective beatdown, all the way through

Maaaaaaan Mouthwashing is SUCH a good game; the atmosphere, the grotesque nature of everything, it’s so on the mark for an interesting story.

Oh, good. First I join the Patreon, and then you share playing one of the games I can't stop thinking about. I *love* this game, but I've been having trouble finding streams of it that don't murder the atmosphere... you've been one of my favorite Let's Players for a while because of your calm and thorough approach to games. And this one... what I can't get over is the expert use of *powerlessness* it conveys. (Here I start getting into spoilers, so stop reading if you haven't played or watched the movie.) Your very first action in the game is being forced to crash a ship of five for reasons unknown, and just continually reinforces, through what you are and aren't allowed to do, that these horrible things are happening and you can't do anything about it. I have not seen a game so willing to rub a player's inabilitry to influence thing since Spec Ops: The Line, and like that game, this is all to a very particular purpose. Did you notice that Maya is a dead ringer for Shelly Duvall's character in The Shining? Well... Just as Kubrick's horror classic used its horror elements to shine a light on the implicit misogyny and violence in traditional marriage, this game seeks to shine a similar light on the misogyny and violence of male partnerships and the masculine concepts of leadership and, of course, responsibility. Most of the horror comes from being in close proximity to a mind breaking down, but it's played with who's mind it is... and asks the very pertinent question of if it matters. Because Jimmy an Curly are both responsible for this, and with Curly in particular, there is a very real "the blood you've split on you will fall" element. Because Curly is a man who, upon learning that his friend (forgive me, but I'm going to say the quiet part out loud here) raped their mutual female coworker, elected to protect his friend and not the coworker. And thus... well, what happens to him has a dark poetry to him, doesn't it. Rendered mute and powerless at the hand of someone who has harmed him before and absolutely will harm him again... just like Anya, and every other person with no choice to make nice with the ones who assaulted them for their own safety. There's a lot more I could say, but frankly I'd be astonished if you'd made it this far. Sorry, this is a really good game and I wanted to gush a bit.

This was delightfully uncomfortable! Glad you played it!

Yas! I was hoping you'd pick it up. I love existential dread
