Die Hard (1988) FULL WATCH ALONG w/ Coby

Love the Die Hard movies, no. 3 with Samuel L Jackson is an all time favorite, such a great time for action movies. Have you seen "True Lies" and "Speed"?

Fun Note: Die Hard (1988) was based on the novel, Nothing Lasts Forever, published in 1979, written by Roderick Thorp. This book was a Sequel to a novel Thorp wrote in 1966, titled The Detective. Both books feature the lead detective character of Joe Leland. The first book was adapted into a film, titled the same as the novel, The Detective (1968). It starred Frank Sinatra in the lead role of Joe Leland. Die Hard (1988) changed the name of Joe Leland to John McClane, changed him to a younger age, and changed the person he was visiting from his daughter to his wife. There were some other changes, but a lot of names and much of the action stayed the same. It’s weird and cool to think that the original John McClane was Frank Sinatra. Another Fun Note: In 1988, Bruce Willis as John McClane told Hans that he was “partial to Roy Rogers,” and then later tells Powell to call him Roy. Roy Rogers was a Classic Hollywood Cowboy who began his career in films in 1935, and became one of the Greatest Western Heroes of all-time. In 1935, Roy Rogers began his career, while another Western Star was retiring his. That was Tom Mix. Tom Mix appeared in nearly 300 films and shorts. Many of them written and directed by Mix himself. Most of them Silent films. In 1988, Bruce Willis made 2 films. One was Die Hard, and the other was Sunset. Sunset (1988) is a fun crime mystery thriller, starring Bruce Willis as Tom Mix and James Garner as Wyatt Earp, as they team up in 1920s Hollywood to solve a murder. It’s a fictional tale, but based in reality. Wyatt Earp did go to Hollywood in his later years and was a film consultant on many early Western Films. Earp was actually friends with Tom Mix, as well as other Hollywood Greats, such as John Ford. Tom Mix was one of the pallbearers at Earp’s funeral. Sunset (1988) is not the greatest film, but still pretty fun when you know the history. It was also directed by Blake Edwards, who was near the end of a terrific career. (See the original Pink Panther films with Peter Sellers, to start) Blake Edwards also directed Bruce Willis in a very funny film, Blind Date (1987), one year earlier, co-starring Kim Basinger and John Larroquette. PS: Obviously keep going with the Die Hard films. Die Hard 2 is more of the same, and Die Hard with a Vengeance changes things up a bit… very awesomely. I guess Live Free or Die Hard is worth a watch, but definitely no need to go any further.
