I'd be interested in seeing a reaction to John Wayne's final film, The Shootist, as it explores similar themes. The difference in each actors approach to westerns, with Eastwood's films being more cynical and ambiguous morally is worth contrasting.

One of my favorite lines in this movie is, "It's a hell of a thing, killin' a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have."
