Choose Your Own Brainwashing, Day 6

“Having trouble making up your mind? I can help you with that. Mantras are a particular favorite of mine. I’m delighted that we’ll be exploring them together. And eye fixation and mantras complement each other perfectly. I have an extensive collection of pocket watches, and a crystal that you have to see to believe, but for you I think I’ll use something a little bit more… spirally.

“Before we go any further, let’s get to know each other a little bit. I’m Lee, what’s your name?”

You attempt to speak but manage nothing but a whisper. The voice (‘Lee’, you remind yourself) notices.

“Sometimes when people fall under my spell they have a little trouble speaking, but I think you’ll find that from now on, whenever I ask you a question, you’ll be able to respond clearly and easily with very little effort.

“Repeat your name, please.”

You do as you are directed, and this time you are able to speak very clearly. (A voice in your head wonders why you can’t hear anyone else saying their name, but it’s not important, so you forget about it.)

“You’re doing so well for me! And from now on, any noises you hear other than my voice, and there may or may not be other noises, maybe even other voices, but none of them are quite as important to you as mine. My voice will always be the only sound that matters and my words the only things you need to listen to.

“I love to brainwash people,” Lee says.

“So many times they have thoughts that are just obstacles preventing them from being their best selves.

“I can build you up, make you happier and more capable of taking on the world.

“I can make you yearn to please me through acts of service.

“I can strip away your idea of who you are in favor of who you should be.

“I can take away your ability to think critically and leave you a simple, smiling submissive.

How shall I brainwash you?
