Spire of Secrets 2 | Spells

You might recall the From the Arcane Archive book which we released some time ago: it was a huge collection of our spells in one place, but it has some tragic shortcomings we weren't entirely able to shake. First, it was massively polarized by Dark Matter, High Seas, and Fey Folio spells, as every spell meant tons of campaign-specific spells that won't enrich most campaigns. Secondly, it wasn't an attempt to revisit, rebalance, and refine the spells within -- it takes so long just to compile spell lists that the book was barely finished with me working overtime. Lastly, it hasn't been well-updated; something I intend to fix when Spire is finished and canon version of its spells are ready for print.

Why the long spiel about an old, outdated Mage Hand Press book? Because we're working on the Spells chapter of Spire of Secrets, our looming mega-book! Every specter of our past came back to haunt us, and personally I've been putting in some truly insane hours to make this chapter happen.

Despite all the work, I'm sad to report a pyrrhic victory: we've finished everything except the necromancer spells and its spell list. Because not all the spells are done, the graphic design couldn't be entirely finished. Most of the art is finished, just not placed. Worry not: this chapter will look sick when all is said and done, and the necromancer won't be missing any critical options. Hopefully, I'll have an updated bit of this chapter for you in the near future.

In the meantime, you can peruse this fairly big, much more polished collection of spells. It's got armfuls of new spells, reworks and rebalances for old favorites, and finished spell lists for every class (sans necromancer)!

I'm extremely interested in feedback in general, but especially in the following areas:

---

Next month, I'd like to show off something other than Spire of Secrets work, but this chapter was an absolute killer. Let me know how you feel about seeing book updates in this space, or what you'd like to see me pad releases out with while I'm doing the heavy-lifting for the next big project.

Hey, this is random but can a PC Necromancer (as in your class) get turned by a necromancy wizards capstone ability?

They can't do lists for non-ogl classes for legal reasons. Basically just throw the wizard spell list at them

Jesse Smith

Is a list for Artificer not planned?

Matthew Atkins

Candy Blast is my new favorite cantrip. I do feel like you should use a piece of candy as a somatic component :)

Paradox looks fun! As does Nondescript, it gives me an idea for a City of Mist character who has the concept of the Stranger as their Mythos!!

I love this idea so much I've just been hacking it together myself. Let's just say my party was shocked by a full coven hexing them dizzy and Possessing their Ranger.

Maybe some stat blocks of enemies based on the new classes introduced in the book? I'd love to pit my players against a rival group of adventurers composed of a Warmage, Witch, Warden and Martyr.

I’m personally fine with the book previews. If you wanted to pad things out a bit, my preference would be for archetypes and/or races. For archetypes, I’d love to see some new ones for MHP classes, or that toss a little of an MHP class out there for an existing class (like the divine soul sorc tosses a little cleric into the sorcerer). For races... I dunno. The ‘Verse is big. What else might we run across out there in our travels? I guess you could do some more Dark Matter monsters, in that same vein.
