Complete Alchemist Redux

Plan C is to blow the whole mountain up with a half ton of explosives. That's always plan C, of course.

The definitive, revised from the ground up, Complete Alchemist Redux is one of the most finely crafted classes out there. Not only it is magnetically fun to blast things into bits with alchemical bombs and brew potions on the fly, but the class is designed to be extremely customizable to suit characters of every playstyle.

The Complete Alchemist realizes the potential of the alchemist with new and exciting archetypes from the Ooze Rancher to the Xenoalchemist. Moreover, it comes stocked with a list of new potions and a suite of Monstrous Grafts, for when you absolutely, positively must have a dragon's head surgically attached to your body.

I'm surprised there aren't any Discoveries with 6th level as a requirement. The earliest level-restricted one is level 9.

Fabhar

Sad to see the Formulaeist go:( I had a character I was planning on playing who basically revolved around having a bomb for every situation. Very intellectual and very creative, and the subclass worked for him very well, I'm sad it was scrapped rather than redone

Garrett Gautreau

That probably needs to be made clear in the text. If i can poison a rock or piece of metal, i don’t think I can just assume I’m immune to my own poison without clarification. Especially with the interaction of hitting someone point blank with my own bomb and being in the radius.

John Hoffman

Super tricky question to answer by RAW. I'd argue that it doesn't hurt you for two reasons: first, you're not the originator of the poison damage or condition (the person who used the poison is), so Poisoner doesn't apply. Secondly, 10th level /assumes/ you're consuming your own poison in its description, so even if it were more powerful in some way, you would have adapted to it.

Mage Hand Press

Not just poisoned but damage too.

Harvey Puerta

Question cause we were goofing around the other day about the Venomsmith. Because of the second level feature of you ignoring immunities, can you poison yourself with the feature at 10th level onwards? In the instance of "Someone fed/hit me with my own poison" if it were to happen.

Harvey Puerta

You cannot. You can only add reagent dice to damage

Mage Hand Press

On the Apothecary’s Painkiller Bomb, I know the 1d8 doesn’t increase, but could you add your reagent dice to it like a regular bomb?

Braden Read

Like Crazy Ivan in red alert 2!

The Nails of Vecna

It's the latter. They're thrown weapons, but you can absolutely play a melee bomber if you want.

Mage Hand Press

Might have found an error. Bombs are listed as a martial melee weapon. Alternatively, Alchemists are Much crazier than I thought :)

Kristopher R. Hunter

By RAW, they can add it to every damage roll. You'd add it once to a single roll, but the damage in this case is untyped, like a rogue's Sneak Attack. I see no reason why a Potion of Giant Strength wouldn't work on an ooze.

Mage Hand Press

Many thanks. I am really a big fan of the class, and honestly it says a lot that "doesn't have one niche build" is my biggest complaint with it :) I'm looking forward to seeing where y'all go with Craftsman and Electric East next :)

Kristopher R. Hunter

We tried to rework the formulaeist for the new class, but couldn't land on a build we liked. But you're not the only person to bring up wanting to play an Inventor alchemist, so I'll work on making something to include for this concept.

Mage Hand Press

I think that's where the Gadgeteer in Dark Matter is supposed to come in.

Josue Valle

To clarify this (as I feel it was a bit snarky on my part) I'm currently playing an Artificer, and was hoping to rebuild them as a MFOV Alchemist. I'm really happy with how y'all have rebuilt the class overall, but I feel like the "Dedicated Inventor" schtick is sort of off the table now. If I build a mad scientist now, they're probably going to be just blowing things up, which feels less satisfying to me.

Kristopher R. Hunter

A couple of questions: When the Ooze Cowboy discovery says oozes add your proficiency modifier to their damage rolls, is that just on attacks, or features like Corrode Metal or Engulf as well? And this is probably a dumb question, but on attacks, would you add it to both the bludgeoning damage roll & the acid damage roll, or just the bludgeoning? Also, just to make sure, would potions like Potions of Giant Strength or Potions of Speed work on Oozes? (I really like that archetype, btw- it’s probably my favorite ^^)

Braden Read

So...Formulaeist is dead? That's the one I needed :P

Kristopher R. Hunter

Nice all the way around! I was looking at that, and now I just need someone to let me ever run an alchemist in a game... I'll be spoiled for choice!

Medicshy

Man this looks amazing. I'm loving the subclasses!

Zoey Smith

Nice! Thanks man :D

Glorious incandescents!

Charles Koeppel

My player with a level 12 alchemist is still waiting for the redux of the bowgunner :p
