Small Patreon Changes and Opinion Polls

Hey everyone!

I wanted to let everyone know that I'm making some small changes to hopefully improve the Patreon, make the tiers more consistent, and so forth. Then, I'd like to hear your opinion on some other important things that we're considering implementing.

Name Change, Kinda

First and foremost, we're changing the name of this Patreon to Mage Hand Press. It's important that our branding is more consistent and, while the free blog will still be Middle Finger of Vecna, we've been publishing under Mage Hand Press for long enough that we should change it here, too.

Secondly, I'm tiding up the tiers a little bit. All books of 80 pages in length or longer will be exclusive to the $3 tier and above starting in one week. This replaces the more vague stipulation about "settings", which has only become more opaque as we've become more ambitious. Currently, this will affect the following books: From the Arcane Archive, Fey Folio, and High Seas.

Blog Exclusivity

For the last year or so, we've been keeping everything released on the Patreon exclusive to this site for at least nine months, which is why the Marshal only recently saw public release on the blog. We've been doing this with all content, regardless of whether or not we intend to release it for free or not.

We'd like to petition the following, subject to your approval:

We'd like to reduce the period of exclusivity to one month for books which will be released elsewhere with a paywall. Books that are to be released for free will
still be subject to the nine month period of exclusivity.

As loyal patrons, you're still getting the best possible price, but others will be able to buy in to see these books on the Mage Hand Press store and on other platforms for a little bit more. We'll abide by whatever decision the majority comes to.

Comments

The change is fine with me. It doesn't affect me and will help you and those other 5(e) fans that cannot be current Patreons. It's a No effect-Win-Win situation as I see it. Good idea!

Thantos

I'm all for reducing the time on items. I feel like getting more user feedback will help us all in the long run. Honestly, I'd have preferred Marshall be free from the get go just to facilitate it being buffed and rereleased in a more complete form. It's an awesome premise that deserves more attention.

It’s not an option, but I’m fine with you removing the wait time for items for sale to same day. Kobold Press does this with their Warlock Patreon. It’s fine. It’s not impacting what I’m getting and I am presuming that you will be pricing things in such a way that the Patreon is preferable.

It makes a lot of sense financially for you to reduce the wait time for Content that will be behind a paywall. Furthermore it makes plenty of sense to me that the better off financially you are the more content you can produce. If suddenly money becomes an issue you may have to stop producing it. That is not in our best interest. It will help bring more people to the patreon that don't want to pay piecemeal. And it will help increase sales by placing more product on your shelves sooner for those who are willing to pay piecemeal. Just my take though.
