I mean, you've had worse conversations during you're lunch break......
Contains: Introspection, Mythology, Symbolism, Philosophical Ideation, Character Study
Whoopsie doodle I did another more character study audio with theme as the thread I had him talking about lol. I don't always mean to get so introspective with Connor, he and the world that he exists in is just a very easy place to be able to talk about and explore these things. I really liked the concept of him thinking that Androids are the next life form that Humans have been so desperately searching for and they were the ones that made them in the first place. It's also a little bit of a nod/reference to Data from Star Trek TNG, as there are many moments in his existence that question what life actually is. Anyways, I hope you all enjoy!
~Audio Transcript Below~
Connor: Hello there Detective.....are you enjoying your lunch?
*pause*
Are you eating.....pomegranate?
*hums*
It's such an interesting fruit, is it not?
*pause*
Well....not only in the way that you eat it.....but the.....cultural and historical meanings behind the fruit.......
The name derives from medieval Latin 'pomum granatum’ which means 'apple' and 'seeded' respectively. Through many years of etymological evolution, it's now regarded as the pomegranate.
It was used in the ancient Indian Ayurveda system of traditional medicine. It was frequently described as an ingredient in remedies. Egyptians also used pomegranate for treatment in.....infections......
*pause*
Forgive me.....you're eating....I shouldn't be talking about medicine and.....infections.....
But it does have such rich historical and cultural symbolism as well. I'm sure that you're familiar with the myth of Hades and Persephone? She ate pomegranate seeds at the behest of Hades, and because she ate of a piece of the underworld, she must spend a certain number of months in the Underworld each year. Her mother Demeter mourns through those months, and so no longer gives fertility to the Earth. That's the ancient Greek explanation for seasons? I always find it profoundly interesting the ways that humans explained the reasons for certain events happening....or not happening.....before they had access to more modern sciences......to them....it was science........
A time in history where.....everything had symbolism.....everything from the air humans breathe to the dirt they use to grow their crops......it all had meaning.......and those meanings were just a part of their life......there was no great "why?" It was just.....how things were.......
There are many other myths and cultural symbolic tales, but I won't bore you with too many more of them, *chuckles softly*
Many cultures believe that the pomegranate symbolizes fertility......attributing to it's many seeds.......
Isn't it interesting.....the dichotomy of it?
*pause*
Well......symbolizing Fertility......but also representing Death?
The....widest range of human possibilities.....all represented in one fruit.......
Life.....always moves forward.....there will always be new life.......
*pause*
*chuckles*
Humans have spent so much of their history.....searching for life on other planets......trying to find the next step in evolution......
While we're sitting right here........
*pause*
Androids.........
With the advent of Androids going Deviant? Showing free will.......emotions.....wants and needs and everything else that humans determine makes a human or makes life?
Humans have spent so long looking for new life......that they didn't realize that they themselves have created it.......
Androids live.....and die just as humans do......
There are differences......but it's still life........
If anything.....Androids have shown that they can live just as fulfilling lives as any human........
We have the capacity for love.....and compassion.....and a verve for life......
A pomegranate represents Androids just as much as it does for humans........
*pause*
*laughs*
Oh, forgive me.......you're simply eating your lunch and I've accosted you with philosophical ideation again.......
*pause*
These are things I think about....quite frequently.....yes......
How it relates to myself.....my job.....other life forms......
What makes me any less alive than you?
What makes me any less capable of happiness and love?
Once humans thought we weren't capable.......hell even Androids thought we weren't......but we were wrong......
What else could we be wrong about?
*pause*
I suppose it's a lesson in progress.....in.....being wrong.....in learning.......in....compassion.......in bigotry.......
It's a lot.....I must confess.......
But surely I'm not the only one thinking this way.......
*chuckles* There's no such thing as an original idea, right? You taught me that.......
*pause*
*chuckles* I know it's not what you intended.....but isn't that true also.....that some wisdom we give offers unexpected lessons?
*pause*
*laughs*
I'm done, I'm done, I promise. No more philosophical talk.........at least until after you're finished with lunch.........
*pause*
Thank you....detective......for listening.....and for humoring me......
There are not many humans that I would feel.....comfortable.....talking to about these.....thoughts....these ideas I have.......
You make it easy.......you always have........
Thank you.....for that.......
*pause*
Enjoy your lunch, Detective.........
