Pomegranate: November is National Pomegranate Month, but Pomegranates have diverse cultural and religious significance, as a symbol of life, fertility, but also a symbol of power, blood and death. Almost all of us know the myth of Persephone and the underworld, but Pomegranates have been used since antiquity as traditional medicine. They've been seen as an aphrodisiac and have been used as ingredients in love potions.
Citrine: Some ancient cultures believed that wearing gems or placing them on their forehead would help open the mind and energize one's creativity and intellect. Traditionally the color of yellow, of which the Citrine is famous for, represents the inquisitive side of the mind, and helps stimulate logical thinking and intelligent inspiration. People throughout history have also used Citrine to help clear their minds and hearts of emotional baggage. The cheeriness of the gem evokes thoughts of joy, and help elevate moods.
Peony: Commonly, Peonies symbolize romance, prosperity, happy marriage, riches, honor and compassion, but they can also mean bashfulness. There are two common myths about the Peony. In one, the name of Peony is tied to a nymph named Paeonia. A beautiful nymph attracts the attention of Apollo, who begins to flirt with her. When Paeonia realizes that Aphrodite is watching them, she becomes bashful and turns bright red. In retribution, Aphrodite in anger turns her into a red Peony. This is one believed to be one of the sources of the bashfulness symbolism! It was also a common fate of lovers/love interests of Apollo. Some of the best times to give someone a Peony, is when you want to congratulate someone who's been successful in some aspect of their lives.
