I think I left a comment on YouTube, but I'll do it here as well lol. Rain On Me is inspired by alcoholism and Gaga trying to numb her pain with alcohol. The lyrics "I'll rather be dry but at least I'm alive" reference how she wishes she was sober, but at least she's coping. It makes sense Ariana was invited to the collaboration sense she was going through a lot during the time such as the Manchester attack (2017), breakup with Pete (2018), and Mac Miller's death (2018). Rain On me was announced in May 2020, which means they were probably dancing their pain way while producing this song during 2019. Gaga has described the writing process of Chromatica as therapeutic, describing it as "a celebration of tears". Fun fact, all Gaga songs start as piano ballads by herself.
