Underhill and Kids

Wanted to work on Edwin's mom, i need to name her and his siblings. I think she's a funky cool lady. Originally I had gone with the 'kinda absent' parent angle who don't notice, but since it's been decided Portia's mom is hella absent, and her dad sorta is with him being in and out of care, I kinda wanted his parents to be the opposite. Super cool, but forces of nature, VERY hands on, at least they were, and then they begin their travels... I think they believe they know their children SO well, and they probably did before they left... but when they start traveling for work (edwin would have been about 14 ish) it kinda means Edwin has to step up as older brother. I think it'd be more like theyre home on weekends, then every other week, then when Edwin is an adult (and his sisters are older) they are traveling pretty extensively.

Mrs. Underhill I think is a very loving, 'i know you better than you know you' mom who really stepped up and filled a sort of mother role that Portia later takes on for the sisters, more like fun auntie which mrs. underhill is SUPER APPRECIATIVE of. That being said, i do think they 'know' their kids until they don't know them, and I think Edwin dating Portia would really solidify this. It would be the 'well hes just so busy' and then oddly good moods and then a week where its bad, then really good again, and he brings up that he's going on a date but his parents think its a joke because he just isn't really the type and he would have said! Or Edwins too awkward and was kinda hurt so he didn't correct it or bring it up again until they return home and Portia was sleeping over.

Haven't figured out how that whole goes down, how they explain themselves, and the reactions. It'd be pretty big news! Edwin brings a girl home and its Portia of all people, but not only that, they've been dating for months?? (much longer if including their fwb segment) and Edwin never said anything? Or did he? How did they miss this? And gets kinda deeper into the fact that Edwin is very self sufficient... but his overall loneliness and struggles get overseen because 'that's just how he is!' when he doesn't want to be alone, or angry, or struggle socially or relationship wise... I think Portia would be a good mouthpiece and concisely put it together, she's an observant queen after all and good at reading people. Portia's probably the only person thats ever really made him feel seen, even when they were enemies because she noticed him (too much)
