WSWF: Mega Crew Mission (Studio Choom Ver.) Reaction

Saw lots of requests to do this ahead of the broadcast version. And I agree - too many cuts on the actual show last time.

These are just my first thoughts on these. I can expand on the broadcast.

Which one's your favorite??

WSWF: Mega Crew Mission (Studio Choom Ver.) Reaction

I love hearing your perspective on these videos. Bumsup was my favorite, and I had goosebumps watching it. However, I think it's good for us to keep in mind that the main accent or focus of this season's mega crew was to show your culture. When Jennie announced the mission, she mentioned the min of 30 dancers and that we have to see your culture through your video. And I think that's why most crews did not put that much effort into the formation changes, etc, but more on how they can represent their culture and pass a message. Nonetheless, Bumpsup was still able to represent the Korea culture and give us that grandeur that most people expect from a mega crew mission. The fact that they have been through this before made it easier for them to capture the essence that the public will look for.

You said everything I wanted to say about this mission so eloquently! No bias watching these, since I'm European, but every group did so well representing their own country's/city's culture. But Bumsup and OJO were my favorite by far. I couldn't stop saying 'wow' while watching Bumsup and I actually applauded when OJOs video was over. They ate this one up!! 💙💚

people keep saying the other crews besides bumsup aren’t “mega crew enough” like i hope people understand that mega crew isn’t how it’s shot or the location it’s about the amount of people likeee?? 💀 but besides that my favorite crews video is motiv

i think BUMSUP did the best in the traditional mega crew sense. my personal favourite, however, is MOTIV. marlee had a vision and executed it beautifully. i don’t think they went for grandness at all, which can for sure hurt them when it comes to the judging portion. but instead, they prioritized getting their message across, which i admire greatly. they were the only crew who included criticism in their depiction of their country’s identity, and especially with the climate in the US rn, their message of inclusivity seems to have resonated with a lot of people, which i think was their goal in the first place. speaking of World of Dance, they’ve actually been head-lining it for the past few years now haha. marlee’s also been a judge. so, i think, if the goal was to be grand and showy, they could’ve definitely fulfilled that. but again, i think they prioritized the message instead of grandness.

My favorite is Bumsup. Just felt like 1 whole piece even though there are some cuts for different sections. Felt like the Mega crew the most. You can clearly see how creative the change of formations are and sections coz it flows so well..just like how a mega crew dance are. 2nd place is Motiv. If they could just show the travel or transition of formations more than just using a video cut to do it, it would have felt less of music video/performance video. Because some of the dance could have easily be just shown through moving the camera and not cutting so much. But love the black and white stuff, the hiphop history feels of it. And authentic hiphop feels. 3rd between 3 groups. AG Squad each sections was crazy good, if just looking at by section some of theirs are probably my favorite. But all together, im not sure. And too much video edit effect. Same for RH tokyo, so many different sections that doesn't seem like 1 piece. Maybe because of the different locations and then with the kids being on just 1 part, but in the end I'm not sure if all the dancers were actually there. The video overall is so cool though. Ojo gong does also feel like a megacrew mission but the different sections doesn't flow smoothly together. Love Twice, but that sudden cut/change then next into hiphop then back to the same song as the beginning part like kind of weird.

How I would rank them 1. Motiv This was a wild ride into showing what the US is about in dance. Incredible storytelling and the editing was phenomenal(shoutout Marlee for editing and directing it). Everything was just perfect and I personally could not add on ideas or pick out flaws. 2. RH tokyo Fun way of showing real Japanese locations and settings without it feeling disjointed. The dancing was less clean than others but the setting and story of showing what Japan and it's culture is about sold me. Rie Hata also just has an incredible eye for direction and camera work. 3. Bumsup Just a really solid overall traditional mega crew like previous SFW seasons, an that is imo the downside. They didn't explore other things. The dancing is really clean. But overall just middle of the pack 4/5. ojo gang/AG squad What I really dislike about these 2 is that they use cuts in both camera&location together with different music. Makes the whole thing feel like sections instead of 1 single piece. Jam republic also did this last season and they also ranked last for me there. The dancing is on a really high level, but in terms of creating 1 mega crew mission it just feels too disjointed imo.

My favorite first watch and overall, until now, is Bumsup. I dont even know how many times I've watched it. Second watch, Ojo def caught my attention (but also i just have a really bad girl crush on Kyoka rn hahaha). I def appreciate RH and Motiv incorporating the kids. I bet this will be a core memory for them :)

Ojo gang are pretty versatile like the way they edit other feels like kyoka is only able to do hiphop but she actually can do a lot of other styles likes heels !! Yeah she do and she’s amazing at it

IdkIdkIdk

For RH Tokyo I'm pretty sure they used the recontitution of the shibuya scramble. There is a studio for that. It would be the easiest way to do it

The dancer that looks familiar to you in the motiv video is “the crown”, very famous battle/freestyle dancer.
