Universe League EP 4 Reaction

Sorry I was very confused half the show about this mission/challenge. I don't think it was explained very well. Or maybe it was just me 😅

Universe League EP 4 Reaction

Comments

As I rewatched some performances on youtube, I noticed there was less audio processing compared to the full episodes (especially in later episodes). I also think it’s less distracting without reactions being edited in, which makes it easier to focus on the performances. You may consider switching to youtube for the performances if that’s not too inconvenient. Just an FYI—I’ve enjoyed rewatching this show with you regardless!

Lily

Yes! It is SBS! Sorry, I edited the comment now lmao 😅

Pips

It's funny and cute how confused Jeff was 😅

Long comment incoming, sorry in advance but I want to share my take on TO1 and the leaving situation. I am not saying that struggle with mental health and stuff was not part of it. It definitely was bcs Woongki went on a full hiatus due to anxiety. But honestly the Woongki and Kyungho drama is probably blown out of proportion, you can even see in behind-the-scenes Kyungho coming to the same hallway as Woongki and after spotting a signal from stuff off camera he suddenly stops and goes away lol. Also back then in TO1 (which was after one rebrand already btw) one member Chihoon left basically by himself. After that we have not heard from TO1 for a while but there was an update on their site which suddenly lacked 3 other members and there were different boys we didnt know instead. People were confused and mad, IT WAS ONLY AFTER THIS that WakeOne announced Woongki, Seongmin and Minsu leaving the group and other three guys joining instead. The statement went: "WAKEONE and TO1 members took time to reflect on our activities of the past two years and think hard about the group’s leap into the future. We were open to all directions and tried to find the best solution, and after continuous discussion, TO1 decided to take on new challenges through the re-establishment of team identity and refining the direction of the team. First, after an in-depth conversation about the team’s identity and direction, members Min Su, Jerome, and Woong Gi decided to leave TO1 and prepare for a new start." Well.. the question everyone asked themselves was "how the hell do those three not fit any possible concept?". We got the answer quickly after seeing the next concepts since they were more centered on conventionally masculine feeling. And literally anyone could connect the dots that those three members who "left" were the more conventionally feminine ones. They even had an unofficial subunit called "TOOWICE". Therefore the general idea is that they just wanted to try to raise the popularity by making the group more masculine and thirst worthy for fans which was bonkers like I literally loved the group for the different antics and clashing of their individualities. And I am very convinced that the production team just didnt know how to navigate that bcs they didnt capitalize on it. The only time this shined through on stage were covers like Someday, Next Level and I cant stop me. Highly reccommend these. So yeah.. the scenes on this show are not an accurate description of what really happened in TO1. It is actually an irony that WakeOne is now managing a fruit basket of a group that ZB1 is as well lol.

Kyung Ho seems like such a cinnamon roll hidden under a tough exterior. I’ve never seen him until this show but I’m definitely checking him out now.

The bench/starting lineup are all intermixed based on the votes they received from the live audience in the last episode. At the end of that episode they announced each team’s ranking based on audience votes and 1-7 were the starting line up and 8-14 were the bench teams. Recording the new songs as a benefit was in the captions a few times in this episode…maybe you are looking at their facial expressions and missing some of the captions? I’m not sure what is happening but we will understand if you need to pause to catch all the captions. ❤️

Tiana

I didn’t expect you to upload the new episode today, and I literally screamed with happiness! I really enjoyed watching UL again, but this time with your reaction to it.

Belle

it's not just you, this show is confusing af huhu rules change every week. the only thing that carried this show was the talent for these participants tbh! the casts really carried the show so hard. sbs failed to execute the "new format" very well. I get that attempt tho, but it was just so full of loopholes. nevertheless. i enjoyed the songs and performances. thanks to the ever hardworking trainees and directors!

howltthew

my BL heart about that woongi and kyungho drama LOLL.. i feel like woongi is avoiding kyungho due to the past but kyungho wants to talk to him so the only way was to battle him LMAOO PLS STOP ME😭

Directors watching from the other teams during Intercept round is giving them also an opportunity to scout potential players to their team. I also think directors are not allowed to share what they've seen during the rehearsals of the opponent team. It's like giving them a preview if their song will be stolen or not.

Rachel Labastida

This is not Mnet I think..It's SBS I think..therefore there is negligible evil editing.. I don't think there is any..but yes I agree..As much as it is a competition between 3 groups and the directors want their group to debut at the end, they will be fair and would want everyone to do well.

I think the mentors' main goal is to help the trainees, not just to win. Of course, they want to do well, but when they agree to be part of a program like this, their focus is on guiding the trainees. I believe all the teams ended up benefiting from their feedback, and they likely gave advice to both teams—it’s just that SBS isn’t airing everything. Plus, each mentor has a unique perspective, and having different teaching styles is so good for the trainees.

Woongki and Kyungho beef reminds me of all the beefs in Street Woman Fighter and Street Man Fighter where utlimately they do resolve their beef. Here, it seems like the same is happening. And I was hoping for a resolve. I am happy that they reconciled.

Pratiksha Majee

Ya I was also weirded out by the fact that Ten and Yangyang went to Team Beat bench team's interim check. I hope there was fairness and the directors weren't allowed to tell either team about other team's strong and weak points but only give feedback about their performance. Plus I think another fair thing would have been if Ten and Yangyang were already done with Team Rhythm interim check and then went to Team Beat and with what they were saying that TB could beat TR, it seemed like they already saw TR's performance and then went to TB and thus maybe weren't allowed to go to TR. That's why maybe right before the performance Ten and Yangyang were telling their team to focus on the facial expressions more and stuff. I feel bad for Jiang Fan. He never gets a good team and he is so much better than the others in his team! I felt like Jiang Fan was carrying his whole team in terms of dance and performance and that one other guy sang almost the entire song though it was nasal. The other members movements lacked power I felt.

Pratiksha Majee

One thing about Chih En, I don't know if you noticed or not and this is no hatred but one reason I always felt disconnected with him and used to think why he has so much hype though he is dancing and singing really well, is his facial expressions. I feel like he needs to work on his facial expressions. I feel he always has a strong poker face but he needs more expressions that suits the choreo, maybe smile or more of a fierce growl expressions, something else. His poker face really distracts me from his great dancing and singing skills. But he can definitely work on that. I hope he shows more facial expressions in upcoming missions.

Pratiksha Majee

Oh damn, we get this show early. So the starting lineup was based on the rankings 1-7 and bench team with 8-14 ranks as shown in the results and some bench team members got higher ranking/ votes than some starting line up members so you see the change. Also, if you notice, Beat team starting lineup has a yellow card member and yellow card members were the lowest ranked and should have been in bench team but Beat team starting lineup has a yellow card member , Royce I think coz he was traded from rhythm team for Chih en who was a starting line member of Team Beat. So Royce ended up from rank 14 in Team Rhythm to starting line up of Team Beat. Now the ones who were taken from the other team, Chih en, Hee jun, they are in starting lineup instead of bench team coz bench team members were traded for TR and TG, so they should have been in the bench team replacing those traded members but I don't know why they are in the starting lineup or if the directors had some kind of power to put them in starting lineup. JL's idol is Ten so it's nice that you see Ten in him when he dances, guess he learned from watching his idol!

Pratiksha Majee

haha the confusion 🤭 you’re not alone! another reactor i was following also didn’t catch the switch in line-ups because it wasn’t really emphasized last episode. but as the others mentioned, every round, the rankings can change according to the individual ranks of the trainees in each team. also, since the online votes start to come into play this round, i think it’s worth mentioning that the 1st round of online voting opened AND closed BEFORE the first episode aired. ain’t that crazy 😭 so as much as on-site voting can be biased, the online votes suffer from the same dilemma. trainees without prior media exposure and a somewhat established fanbase can really suffer. it sucks. as for the performances, i agree that juwon is so seasoned as a performer! he’s so charming on stage, and he has such a playful, natural charisma. JL is indeed SOOOO stable and such an all-rounder. mamma mia is probably my favourite song this round, and team beat’s concept suits woongki soooo well. for their bench team, jiang fan really did so well 😭 his dancing stands out so much, and i truly hope he gets to shine more. i’m SO excited about next ep’s performances and what you’ll think of them! 👀 oh— and about the directors checking out the other team’s progress, i would go as far as to guess that it was probably encouraged by the production team haha. ten and yangyang aren’t the only directors to do that this round

cathy

Haha I'm sorry I did find it cute how confused you were lol. I think you might have forgotten and not heard some of the last episode when they were going up on stage for the votes. The votes from the audience determined who was on starting line up and who was bench. Then what they win is the song being released on Spotify (and on the Universe League album) under their names and voices. With Shuaibo's feet feeling planted I think part of that is because he's lowering himself a lot more. He is a lot taller than everyone else so he is trying to bring his height down to match everyone and I think that's what is making it harder to be lighter on his feet. I also think this episode shows what a lack of evil edit can do to change someone's perceptions of a person. Shuaibo comes across as very likeable- especially in this episode. I know after BP he went through a hard time with death and rape threats so I am glad he got up the courage to do another survival show and that the show didn't do him dirty in the same way BP did. Steven is a great vocalist and an excellent rapper (great song writer too). I think he was just really nervous during the first interim check. Luminous had been through a lot with mismanagement and hiatus and I think he'd lost a bit of confidence. It was so nice seeing it come back during the show.

CallistoWarriorQueen

You'll notice it after rankings are announced and how they were seated from last episode :)

sushiracey

Hey Jeff, so to make things less confusing for you, after every performance, there is individual voting for the members in the group so after that voting, it adds up and the first seven in the voting gets to be the starting line up while the other half is the bench players. This is kind of why voting matters because you never know who the audience is going to vote for in terms of how well they performed or if they are just your favorites that you want to see make it to the next round. You can never really know. Hopefully this clears things up a little bit🙂

Naomi Pannell

Hi jeff, actually it's not just that you could cross other teams, it’s a must

Marksubak

Hi! So when the individual ranking is announced, they said that the top 7 will become the starting lineup and then lower 7 becomes the bench. So it will change depending on how the individual votes go. :)

sushiracey

They are not forever starting line up and forever bench that's why you see them mixed up. It's because of the ranking in votes

Irish Blasco

Okay so remember the ranking they got in the votes. Top 1-7 of each team automatically became the starting lineup and then Top 8-14 became the bench.

Irish Blasco

when was this explained 🥺🥺

seth james

So u cant really relax hahahha

ALYSSA

There's an internal ranking for each team. The top 7 in the team will be the new starting line up and the next 7 will be the new bench team.

ALYSSA

Yowww hi jeff
