68 - The Baek Clan Manor

I don't speak Korean and my only experience with Korean names is manhwa. Apologies if I fucked them up.

“I come in peace,” I declared, putting my hands in the air. “I had no intention of trespassing here. That was not my portal. However, I did intend to visit the clan formally, for I have important business to discuss with the patriarch.”

“You think you can just meet with the patriarch after trespassing so boldly?” asked the guard.

“I just said it was ...

Injured my hands

It's nothing serious. I just had a live audition for a piano class the other day, and I overworked myself a little bit preparing for it. Basically, every muscle in my hands and forearms is super sore, and they start cramping when I use them too much. It should be healed in a couple days if I take it easy.

I wrote about half of chapter 68, but I don't want to make things any worse, so I'll be putting off the other half until tomorrow. I'll try to maintain the pace of half a chapter a day...

67 - Isle of the Ouroboros (2)

I wrote this chapter twice. The first time, when I was about to post it, I noticed a massive plothole I accidentally created, so I rewrote the entire chapter, which is why it was delayed. Hopefully the new version is plothole free

Also, as a result of the rewrite, both the Isle of the Ouroboros chapters, and the Journey to the West chapters are coming to an end right here, and the next chapter will take place in the West.

“Ye WHAT!?” shouted Captain ...

Edit: Changed the last paragraph slightly to show Vitaly's weaknesses.

This is still part of the 'Journey to the West' mini-arc, but including the mini-arc title and the chapter title is just too much, especially since this is going to be a two-parter within what is so far a 5+ parter.

There was a loud knock on my door.

“Are ye in there?” It was the same voice as earlier.

“Yeah, what do you want?” I called back.

Minor Delay, but a sneak peak

I ended up in a long (4 hours) philosophy debate and didn't have time to finish the chapter tonight. It's about halfway done, but I need to get up relatively early tomorrow, so I need to go to bed without finishing. Here's a sneak peak of what her new skill, [Divine Eye of Pride] will look like though:

Minor weaknesses:

Talking to people

Major weaknesses:

Talking to women

Ambushes

63 - Journey to the West (2) - The Captain

This Journey to the West mini-arc wasn't originally supposed to take so long, but as I write, it keeps expanding, so I've decided to give additional titles to each chapter within the 'Journey to the West' arc. The next one will be 'Journey to the West (3) - the Kraken'

While I waited for things to settle down above-deck so I could talk to the captain, I used [Greater Mana Sense] to examine the ship. Despite its somewhat simple design and appearance, it was actually quite the ma...

Sorry about the delay. School's been kicking my ass lately. Idk if I'll be able to manage more than 2 chapters a week for the next couple weeks until finals are over. I'll be going on hiatus on RR soon though to let Patreon build up a bit of a lead. I hopefully won't need to also go on a Patreon hiatus, but depending on how bad these final projects are, it might be unavoidable. I'll try my best.

62 - Next Steps

“YOU!” shouted Wrath, pointing his sword up at me.

He swung his sword and a sharp arc of aura ripped through the air in my direction. It was still high enough in the air that I had time to dodge, but only barely. Seeing me still unharmed, Wrath screamed in rage and leapt at me, brandishing his sword. I used [Blink] to get out of his path, but he instantly spun to face me, bringing the blade in a full circle, and sending another aura arc at me. He undershot, only hitting my legs, but...

I am exhausted

I immediately teleported back to my clearing in the forest. While I had saved her life, she was still a [Godly Emissary], and one I didn’t know. If she was there, Sylvia might be too. Without the sunlight, her abilities wouldn’t be as devastating, but if she could cancel [Authority], she would be able to prevent me from teleporting away. It was safer not to engage at all. I would be missing out on Anatoly’s information, but I didn’t really need i...

60 - A Mystery

When I arrived at the city and saw the closed gates, I realized I had made a mistake. It was the middle of the night. Anatoly would be asleep. He would probably be happy to help me, even if I woke him up in the middle of the night, but I was not desperate enough to be that rude.

I turned away from the city that had been my home for half a year and wandered into the woods, trying to find something to amuse myself with until the sun rose. It didn’t take long for me to find the clearing ...

Sorry for the wait on this chapter. I really should have extended the hiatus another week. Midterms sucked away a lot more of my free time than I thought they would. But that's all over with now, so I should be back to my regularly irregular schedule from now on.

“Lust,” I said warily. “Shouldn’t you be defending the city?”

“Shouldn’t you be in jail?” he replied.

I stared at him.

We're back! A bit of a short chapter. It was originally going to be a dual PoV, switching back to Lucy at the end, but this half ended up being long enough, and when I started writing the other half, it was shaping up to be a similar length, so I split it in two.

“Evelyn, please,” said Antonio, looking at the ground with his ears folded back. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done it.”

The wooden door in front of him did not respond. However, a few moments later, a...

Chapter coming tomorrow

A lot of stuff happened in the past 2 days, so I wasn't able to get the chapter out last night or tonight like I wanted to. It's over half done, and I would keep working on it right now, but apparently I have a midterm tomorrow morning that I didn't know about until about an hour ago, so I'm gonna have to study for that instead. Sorry for the delay. I didn't abandon you, I just have teachers who don't remind their students about upcoming midterms until the night before.

Hiatus starts now, sorry

I've been struggling with Chapter 58 for the past 3 days, but it's just not gonna happen until I get some serious planning done. I thought I would be able to finish out this mini-arc at least before the hiatus, but as I keep trying and failing to write this chapter, I realize that I need to spend a lot more time planning, and also shoring up the very holey backstories of a couple characters before I can do it. If possible, I'll try to get the planning done by Saturday, since that's when I rel...

Impending 1 week hiatus

I do not know the exact time that this hiatus will occur, but when it starts, it will last exactly 1 week. Not a second longer.

When I first started this series, it took me 2-3 hours to write each chapter. Lately, it's taking 6-9. Mostly, this is because I have to spend a lot of time going back through old chapters and outlines trying to figure out what the plan is for the current chapter, and making sure it doesn't contradict previous chapters. Even then, I still make mistakes.

“Fine,” I said, shrugging. “I’ve been better.”

“I’m sure you have,” she said. “Are those chains comfortable?”

“Are you just here to gloat?” I asked.

“I’m here to check up on the situation of my old friend.”

“Yeah, sure you are,” I said. “Well, I’ve been officially checked up on. Thank you for your concern. You may leave now.”

Sylvia frowned, but a moment later, it wa...

56 - Pride's a *****

I originally wanted to post this chapter last night, but then I started writing it, and realized that I didn't like what I had planned at all, so I instead spent last night redoing my plans for the next few chapters. Not sure what the schedule is going to look like for the rest of the week, but it's the first week back from spring break, so it should be fairly light on the homework side. Aiming for 2-3 more chapters out by Monday.

“I do not.”

“Then we need to have a short discussion,” he said. “You are going to die in here.”

“Is that a threat?”

“It is a fact.”

“Why?”

Well, as I predicted, I already missed a day of my daily uploads. Whoops. I'll try to get at least 2 more chapters out this weekend. I'll shoot for 3, but with work and my other obligations, I doubt I'll have time. Never say never, though.

“As I said at the beginning,” I started, “while I am the incarnation of Pride, and have the potential to become a Demon King, I have no desire for conquest or domination over any nation. I am not inclined toward wanton destruction. Even...

53 - Prosecution (revised)

I have rewritten almost the entire chapter. It should be greatly improved. The only thing I felt was worse now is the end of the chapter, which is a little sudden and lame, but the edits greatly lengthened it, and I had to end it there because it's late and it's already longer than average.

I cleaned up the trial procedures a lot, and added some content to make it more clear that nobody is particularly impressed with Sylvia's 'trial'. Hopefully this alleviates some of the c...

While preparing to write this chapter, the first thing I thought was "Alright, how would a trial proceed in a world where they have devices that can confirm whether people are telling the truth." The second thing I thought was "Wait, how do trials proceed normally?" The third thing I thought was, "Is this even a trial in the first place? It's more of a hearing really. Or maybe with the truth orb it's both at the same time. Or maybe..." etc etc... and eventually I ended up here. Enjoy. View Post

Sorry again

My grandpa has had some medical issues this past week (he's fine now), so I've been shuttling him around and between that, work, and helping some friends move, I haven't had time for anything. It's spring break though, and I have nothing on my schedule, so I'm hoping to get a chapter out every day starting now until school starts up again. So that should be 7 chapters. I won't make an absolute promise, and I think missing at least one of those 7 days is inevitable, but I will try my best.

“If what you’ve told me is the truth, then this is very concerning,” said Otto once I had finished with my story. “Two Demon Kings came, and neither were noticed until hours after they had left. You’re lucky they didn’t want you dead.”

“Yeah, better security would be nice,” I said. “People keep saying I’m not gonna be executed, but keeping me locked up and unable to defend myself in a place where I could easily be assassinated isn’t a whole lot better.”

Midterms killing my free time

I should have seen this coming, but I kept thinking to myself, "Nah, it'll be fine," and didn't update you guys. Well, it was not fine. And by that I mean it was fine, but I haven't had enough time to write the chapter that I was going to post tonight. I'll probably be able to get halfway there and finish it tomorrow after my last midterm is over. I could maybe push myself to crank it out right now, but it would come out below my already lowered standards, and this is a fairly important part ...

“Touch me and you die,” I said, leaping to my feet, and getting into a defensive stance.

“I mean it,” I warned.

TW: suicide (kind of)

There was a brief panic when Ophelia disappeared, but once the others realized there was nothing they could do, they settled into a somber silence as we awaited the reinforcements sent by the church. I spent most of that time drifting in and out of consciousness, too weak to even keep my eyes open. Sylvia stayed next to me the whole time, presumably to keep me contained– not that it would have mattered, since the cuffs had drained my [MP] to 0, and my au...

When I heard the scream, for a moment, all thought of Envy was pushed from my mind. If he had decided to return right at that moment, he would likely have caught me off guard, and may have even been able to safely rescue Ophelia. Fortunately, Envy was long gone by this point.

There were two reasons I found this particular scream so distracting. First, was the identity of the one who was screaming. The voice was unmistakably Ji-Soo’s, but I was not aware that she was even capable of sp...

Their arrival took me by surprise. The whole point of bringing Ophelia out here was to try and bait the dragon, but I hadn’t expected it to actually work. As the incarnation of Greed, his own sense of self-preservation should have outweighed his love for Ophelia, if such love existed in the first place. The fact that he was there cou...
