Project Hy - Version 0.0 Demo Release

Hi I'm Raay, the one who vanished for a month.


Quick note about "Project Hy":


- Still no v0.1 (Yep, I messed it up again)

- It might not be much, but here's v0.0

Release of v0.0:


v0.0 is a WIP. Well, v0.1 is too, but v0.0 is like a WIP of a WIP. (The reason for the delay will be explained below)

v0.1 will have the full game up to the first H-Scene. It's not yet finished but I'm too ashamed to postpone the release again. Therefore, here's v0.0 as a compensation.

v0.0 only has the H-Scene. Jumping into the H-Scene itself cannot provide a complete experience of the game and I know there's still a lot to be polished. For example:

Especially without the tutorial, You may get confused about what's going on. But if you could share your thoughts on the current game, I'd appreciate it and work on making things better.

This is just a test build and is only available on Patreon for those who want a peek of the game.

So why the heck are you taking so long Raay?

Overestimating myself and underestimating the workload:


Making a game alone is hard. I knew it, but I didn't know it enough.

Given my last game being just a Visual Novel, Project Hy is a bit...overwhelming for to me to build from scratch. A lot of things sound easy but do take time to build.

And I just underestimated them.

Artwork:

That said, artwork is the main reason why I could make it on time.

Switching the art style comes with a considerable risk and I'm very worried about the choice I made.

I'll explain below.

More about Project Hy

I can imagine some of you might feel that Project Hy is a step back from my previous work.

Art:

Some of you like my old work(and I am really grateful to you guys) but I'm sure some would be disappointed and couldn't vibe with the new art style.

If you're not feeling the new art, I'm so sorry QAQ


Some might ask, "Why not stick to the old style?" Well, it's time-consuming. But the truth is just - I don't like it.

Balancing what I want with what the people like, I made numerous art versions. It took months, causing delays.

The sad part is, I'm just not good enough. So, the art in v0.0 still isn't final.

Hopefully, I'll finish the "That's it!" piece soon to confirm the art style, making development smoother.

WHERE IS THE ANIMATION!??

I don't like the art along with Live2D animation. I mean if one day I can make really good colored art that I like, then I may get back to it.
For Project Hy, There won't be Live2D animation (Though I still use Live2D as like a art resource manager).

But Black & White art actually got a more suitable type of animation:

"Hand-drawn animation"

It takes even more time. As a result, some scenes like in v0.0 won't have a full set of animations, just 2-3 frames. Actually, the community response will depend how much content in the game. I'll try to animate as many scenes as possible. So sorry but please wait, and let me know your thoughts when it's here!

What's the schedule now?

The past months have been tough. Sometimes, I'm a bit stressed opening Patreon knowing that I have nothing new for you and have you guys keep waiting. But I know how to see things from your perspective: I guess no one wants to just keep getting "Sorry sorry" so I prompt myself to not apologizing too much but get some good shit done as apology.

So first I'll take a few days of break.

Then back to finishing v0.1! I deliberately choose not to talk too much about the game content so based on v0.0, let your imagination run wild about what the game would be like XD

Must have missed something wanted to say, but I'll save it for next time.

After trying the demo I can agree that it seems awesome and cant wait to try future versions of it, also agree on you dont have to be so hard on yourself since we understand how hard can it be to make a game from scratch. Also the gameplay seems pretty interesting from what I saw, beign able to control the hypnosis level and all the things you may add in the future made me even more excited for future updates of this game

In terms of the whole storyline, it'd be more linear where you can decide what to do first but still lead to the same ending. For H-Scene, there would be both, with story-triggered scenes being linear while some would be different according to the player's actions.

Haha, that's great to hear! I was worried I was coming across as some needless busybody, and I wanted to vocalize my support. V0.0 has been a great proof of concept (I hope I'm using that word right) and has given insight into at least part of the mechanics while leaving open curiosity and a hunger for more. I'm quite invested in seeing what led up to it and how it develops from then on, I just have a quick question. Will there be any branching narrative or is the focus more of a linear experience? Either way, I'm sure I will like what you make, you have a great track record in my books and I don't want to come across with unnecessary pressure.

Hello Raay, let me start off by saying this is a very promising demo of a demo (see what I did there?) and I'm excited to see the full demo! Now with that outta the way let the yap fest begin hehe. I have been loosely following you since I think succubus game V0.2 and I just wanted to say please don't be too hard on yourself. While you did set a deadline, this is your project, and you should enjoy it and make what you want to make at the pace you want to take. I (and hopefully others) would rather you take your time and enjoy what you make (not to say that you don't) and I (we?) know that making content, especially from scratch, can be a grueling process and being unable to manifest any "tangible" results utterly demotivating. Please don't feel forced to show results and get stressed over opening the Patreon as we (or at least I) don't want to rush you and I would even go as far as to say you are already doing very well in showing that you are still working on this project and caring for it. I should probably round this off before I start talking in circles (I might already have) and make this utterly incomprehensible. TL:DR Please take your time making what you want to make at a pace you can manage and don't stress over showing results as this is YOUR project and we are just along for the ride.

The demo was very short but it conveyed a lot about what the general ideas might be. Very interested to see how it continues to evolve. Having actual controls over the levels and different commands should be interesting. The art is still very cute even in this new style!
