Epic finale. That moment when Butcher & Homelander grudgingly team up in defense of Ryan. What a turn. Yet not. Man, this show and it's cycle of father figure legacies. Butcher hated his father, but became just like him. Soldier Boy hated his father, but was just like him... especially throwing out the 'you're a disappointment' to Homelander. Hughie coming to terms with his power dynamics by realizing his father wasn't weak. And then MM is who he is because of what happened to his father... a good man, a good father, but carries it with him in simmering anger and OCD. And it's telling that it was Janine's stepfather Todd who was the first to cheer for Homelander's horror at the rally at the end. Wonder if that will eventually lead to a path of reconciliation between MM and his ex-wife next season. Hope so. Maeve. This show tends to waste Maeve until the finales, then she outshines even Starlight. Maeve saved everyone again. With great full circle emotional beats. I'm torn about her potentially not being in S4... but, out of everyone, I wanted Maeve to get a happy ending. I've seen some folks complain that Maeve should've died if she lost her powers on the way down. But Kripke himself said that he kept her alive because he didn't want to play into the 'bury your gays' trope. (And that she earned her happy ending.) And while I don't think that trope would truly apply here... I still really, really appeciate that. Until S4!
