So much to unpack... just between Noir's trippy cartoon coping and Butcher facing his choices that repeat a cycle of abuses. You could talk for an hour afterwards and still be musing. Also... Free Maeve!

Wendy Sparks

The title is from the last verse of an old english nursery rhyme, called Oranges & Lemons. "Here comes a candle to light you to bed, And here comes a chopper to chop off your head! Chip chop chip chop the last man is dead." The nursery rhyme itself is about the distinct meanings of different church bells. The last ones mentioned, rang for executions. It was sung as a children's game, like London Bridge or Ring Around the Rosie. The lines were also used in Orwell's 1984. And... dig this... in Sandman's Calliope episode, and I presume comic... the first part is the title of the Erasmus Fry novel that he wanted revived... Here Comes a Candle. (The book that's the only thing left in the empty room at the end.)
