In the last few days, I started working on a default Weather FX implementation to be a bit faster alternative to Sol (which is, of course, absolutely amazing, but I think for slower PCs it might be a bit of a strain). Plus, it would be easier to work on things like better tunnels, rain and what not. And while setting it up, I thought Iβd try to find a different way to render clouds, which wouldnβt require a massive textures library (or those CSP updates would become too massive). I tried those modern super-fancy volumetric clouds, but that is just way too expensive and/or noisy, as far as I can tell.
So this is what I came up with so far, itβs not as good as proper volumetic clouds, but itβs quite cheap (since those are just billboards), and easier to control for WeatherFX script if needed. And maybe now cloud shadows would work too. π
