at long last, the nightmare project has been finished. given how much went wrong during this one, i'm just happy to have it done at this point. it was certainly a learning experience, so that's always a plus in my books. hope you guys like it though! apologies it took a little longer than usual to finish :'] i'll go into why below for anyone who's curious (warning: LOTS of rambling) - otherwise, you can just skip to the bottom
it took me a LOT longer to render this than anticipated. if you're curious as to why that is, here's a tidy list of everything that went wrong
on the first render (which i started at 2AM on Tuesday night), windows decided to force an update without any notification or warning, stopping the render only about 1/4's of the way through, so i had to continue it when i woke up
when i DID continue the first render, it took a downright STUPID amount of time to finish (basically in total about 17 hours). on the bright side, it gave me a good excuse to spend 17 hours no-lifing library of ruina which was a good distraction from how inconceivably angry i was at blender
when i went to check how the first render turned out, i realized that due to enabling collisions on lovander's body, none of the physics were properly working for the entire thing (which was difficult to clock until after the render was done)
so with the physics failing, i had to find out why that was which took another few hours to do. once i did, i began the render again (albeit at a lower sample rate this time since the difference between 256 and 128 samples is negligible at best in this case and i REALLY did not want to spend another 20 hours rendering stuff since my PC has been running nonstop for almost 2 days straight)
this time, the render only took about 10 hours (which is still ridiculous in my opinion but whatever) and turned out seemingly fine (truth be told, i haven't looked at it too closely because if i notice that something is even slightly wrong i will absolutely crash out - so please excuse any slight visual jank if there happens to be any. there shouldn't be, but i've obviously been wrong before)
*edit as of typing this out i looked over it again and the thigh physics were bugging out at the end so i had to re-render that as well which nearly made me bite a hole through my keyboard
anyways, i'll be spending the rest of today trying to write out a script for the skit as usual - possibly starting on it if i'm able. ideally, i would like to have that ready to post by sunday. though of course, you can expect to see a concept shot for the next animation before then (i've got a few ideas), so keep your eyes peeled for that in the next few days :] till then, thanks as always for your patience and continued support!
