Cosmic Muse (Bard)

The stars are alight with music. From the sonification of distant galaxies beyond Desna’s path to the beautiful songs of cultures of the Vast, there is no end to the amount of music one can find in the cosmos. If your muse is a creature, it might be a pod of oma starwhales or some of the great musicians of the stars. If it's a deity, gods like Desna or Meyel might serve well.

Everything sings, no matter where you go. When you arrive on a planet, you can make a Performance check to Recall Knowledge against a standard DC to try to understand the artistic and musical culture present on the world at that time. This has a +2 circumstance bonus if it's a planet you've been to before, a –1 circumstance penalty if the planet is in another system to your home system and you've never visited, and a –2 circumstance penalty if the planet does not appear to host sapient life (at which point you listen to the natural music instead). You gain the effects below in addition to the normal effects.

Critical Success You find yourself perfectly in sync with the planet’s zeitgeist. When in a public setting with music present, you can use Performance to Make an Impression on creatures and you gain a +2 circumstance bonus to your checks. Creatures that would start unfriendly to you in these settings treat you as indifferent instead of unfriendly, and creatures that would start indifferent to you treat you as friendly.

Success As a critical success, except creatures unfriendly creatures start unfriendly to you.

Critical Failure You come to believe some fatal error is true about the planet, making you say some potentially foolish things. You have a –2 circumstance bonus to Make an Impression checks when in a public setting with music present, as you completely kill the vibe.

To perform around the galaxy, you need to be ready to speak the languages of the galaxy. You learn one planetary language now, like Brethedan or Castrovelian. You can retrain the language in a single day of downtime to another planetary language.

Your music has come to rely on more than just sound to be enjoyed, and incorporates light and movement. You can cast spells in the vacuum of space and creatures in a vacuum can still be affected by your spells with the auditory trait, as you convey your meaning through a cosmic display.

Frequency once per hour

You can give voice to the voiceless void of space, giving sound to the rings of planets, smoldering atmospheres, or burning stars in a 30-foot cube of open space. Creatures in the area must attempt a Will save against your spell DC.

Success The creature is unaffected.

Failure The creature can hear no other sounds other than the noises of space. The creature is deafened for as long as they remain in the area and 1 round after. Communication links and any items with the tech trait that are dependent on sound become glitching 1 as long as they remain in the area and for 1 round after..

Critical Failure As failure, except the duration of the deafened and glitching conditions lasts for 4 rounds after having left the area.

Requirements You are aboard a vessel traveling through space.

You regale a space adventure through your travels. Attempt a Performance check to Aid the exploration activities of all allies who can hear you while aboard the vessel.

You use quantum entanglement to displace your notes to far off places. When you cast a composition spell, you can choose to have the emanation appear anywhere you can see instead of around you. This incldes visually transmitted signals such as video communication.
