Way of the Spotter

Way of the Spotter

You're slinger that knows the sometimes perception is everything, and that extends to hitting targets as much as it does anything. You have trained a friend with special modes of movement or sensory abilities to help you line up the perfect shots, and although the rough and tumble can sometimes be lonely, it’s good to have someone to watch your back.

Initial Deed

Slinger’s Spotter

Gunslinger Nature

You have learned that the best way to get a job done, is with a spotter. You gain a trained spotter, a specific familiar trained to aid you in your gunslinging. Your spellcasting ability modifier for the purposes of this familiar is Wisdom.

Spotter Familiar

Rare

Required Number of Abilities 2

Granted Abilities Not My Job, Spotter Training, Spot The Shot, Whistle and Go

Spotter familiars are usually just animals that have been specifically trained to aid gunslingers with finding their targets and providing a means for them to execute tough shots.

Not My Job Your spotter familiar gains 2 actions when it is given a Command, but one of these actions must be used to Interact, Point Out, Seek, Step, or Stride. Your familiar can use Burrow, Climb, Fly, or Swim instead of Stride if they have the corresponding movement type. You can spend an additional familiar ability, either permanently or on a per-day basis, to remove this restriction.

Spotter Training Your familiar gains one of the following familiar abilities and once this choice is made it cannot be changed: amphibious, burrower, climber, darkvision, fast movement, flier, tremorsense, or wavesense.

Spot The Shot (auditory, visual) Your spotter familiar can communicate its findings from the Point Out or Seek actions even if it cannot speak. In addition, if your spotter familiar succeeds at a Seek check against an enemy or uses Point Out to make a creature hidden to you that was previously undetected to you, you can use your familiar’s position or your position for the purposes of determining cover or concealment until the end of your next turn. If your spotter familiar critically succeeds at a Seek on an enemy, the enemy is flat-footed to your next ranged Strike against until the end of your next turn. Your familiar can attempt to Seek creatures that are already observed, but the DC for this check is a standard DC of the creature’s level.

Whistle and Go [free-action]

Auditory Concentrate

Trigger You roll for initiative.

You whistle or otherwise denote a location in range as soon as combat breaks out. You Interact to draw a crossbow or firearm. Your spotter familiar can immediately Stride up to half its Speed or attempt to Seek for creatures.

Special If you have the Hair Trigger class feat, you can Strike with a firearm or crossbow you're already wielding instead of Interacting to draw a weapon. If this Strike hits, the target is also flat-footed until the end of your first turn of the encounter.

Advanced Deed 9th

Distracting Spotter

Gunslinger

Your spotter familiar has learned how to create distractions for you. Your spotter familiar gains the skilled (deception) familiar ability and the Distracting Spotter activity.

Distracting Spotter [two-actions]

Your spotter familiar gets into position and attempts to distract a foe on your behalf. Your spotter familiar Strides twice and then attempts to Create a Diversion, except you become hidden to the creatures affected instead of your familiar. If you made a successful Strike against a creature since your last turn, your familiar gains a +2 circumstance bonus to its check. Your familiar can use Burrow, Climb, Fly, or Swim instead of Stride if they have the corresponding movement type and it can use the restricted action from Not My Job for this activity.

Greater Deed  15th

One Stone

[two-actions]

Gunslinger

Requirements You are wielding a loaded crossbow or firearm and your familiar is within 30 feet of you.

Your familiar helps you line up a perfect shot. Draw line from your position to the end of your first range increment that includes at least one enemy within 30 feet of your familiar. Make a single ranged Strike and compare the attack roll result to the ACs of each creature within this line. You take a cumulative –2 circumstance penalty to your attack roll for each creature you attempt to hit beyond 2. Roll damage only once and apply it to each creature you hit. One Stone counts as two attacks for your multiple attack penalty.

────────────

Triangulation Assault [three-actions]

Feat 14

Gunslinger

Prerequisites way of the spotter, Initial Deed

Requirements You're wielding a loaded crossbow or firearm.

You move in tandem with your spotter familiar and make coordinated assaults. You Command your familiar and Stride up to your Speed.
