Couple things I think you were confused on. Carl gets a kick out of finding that cologne because its the same brand of cologne he modeled for in the past (you see this when he hands his portfolio to the modeling casting director at the beginning of the movie). As for the ending, the peddler who's trying to sell the purses/watches/etc. to the German woman is just showing that the audience that its a populated island and not deserted. We can assume the rest of the group found this out minutes afterwards (based on the German woman probably screaming for attention or we can assume the peddler continued down the beach and ran into the rest of the group. The ending scene is Carl trying to alert Yaya and Abigail about this as soon as possible. He's gotten to know how much Abigail has loved her level of power and knows Yaya could be in danger if Abigail finds out her reign is over.
