Attack on Titan S4 Episodes 13 & 14

Comments

When did you grow up to ask the right questions and when did you actually start to challenge what you were taught? (I assume you did since you brought that up.) The thing with Gabi is, she has never had anyone EVER tell her anything that would challenge her beliefs UNTIL the attack on Marley. So all of this is new territory for her, yunno? It's not like you, who probably went to school and met kids who weren't Christians. Who maybe had different beliefs or religions. People who probably helped you gain the courage to question things and you weren't even aware of it. (Sorry, I don't want to speak for you but these are just things we don't think about.) In my opinion, of course she's going to fall back on her beliefs when she's confronted with something that challenges them. It's like what Christians always say, "Well that's the Devil's work. He's trying to deceive you." Gabi's essentially been thrown out into the real world. Where there's different beliefs, where the people she's been taught are all devils live, where there's Marleyans falling in love with Elidians of Paradis.. It's gonna take her a bit to soak that all in. We don't ever really get Gabi's inner thoughts but we do get glimpses of her saying things that are on her mind because she can't understand the way people are reacting. To Sasha's father: "You really don't hate me?" To Armin and Mikasa: "I bet you guys want to kill me." During the scene with Kaya talking about her mom's death you can see that it was effecting Gabi. I definitely understand how it can be frustrating. Everyone changes at their own pace, yunno? Some people will stop something after one bad situation, some people need to be nearly on their death bed before they stop. Sorry for the long post again. Who knows, I'm probably just a biased Gabi fan, lol.

I understand Gabi's position very well honestly. My father was a pastor and I was raised heavily Christian. Eventually i grew up enough to ask the right questions. Gabi infuriates me, not because of what she's done, but because time and time again she refuses to face the truth and falls back into the comfort of her delusions. But hey, maybe I'm projecting?

I tried to make a short post but it never works when I talk about Attack on Titan, lol. I won't be offended if you don't read it. I remember you mentioning how happy you were that the writer took Sasha's death seriously by having that funeral scene in episode 9 and that he gave her death meaning. At the time you hadn't reacted to episode 13 so I kept my mouth shut but I really wanted to be like, "Oh you don't even know how much value he gave to her death." The way the writer had Gabi be essentially taken in by Sasha's family and treated so kindly, meet Kaya and have that conversation about how her mother died and the girl (Sasha) that saved her, and all the while she's completely oblivious to the fact that this is the family of the woman she killed. And then the scene with Nicolo.. where he and Gabi have that exchange. It was so beautifully written. Sasha's death is being paid tribute to, or being valued way more than any death I've ever scene in any sort of writing or film. It's forcing conversations about this pointless killing of each other and how it only causes pain for everyone. The main thing I wanted to bring up though, is how you're so sympathetic towards Gabi. I love it. I have seen so many reactors and so many comments of people just absolutely hating Gabi and not understanding her one bit. So much so that it actually worries me. I've heard people even say that they wish Kaya would of stabbed her. Grown ass adults saying that. It worries me how people can't seem to understand that she's a child who's been so brainwashed that she doesn't even think twice about killing the people of Paradis. When Falco tried to take off her armband she almost lost it. She said, "I am a GOOD Eldian and this seperates me from this island of devils." I'm not asking people to like her.. Hell, you can even hate her. And I'm not saying she shouldn't have to atone for what she's done.. But to NOT UNDERSTAND her.. it bothers me. Like if she was an adult doing this, sure, I would have no sympathy for her. But she's a child who hasn't had the life experience to truly form an opinion on what's right and wrong. She can only believe what she's been taught. I know I'm probably taking this too seriously but I just think of it as, "What if this was real life?" "Do we really lack that much compassion and understanding?"

Rant Alert!! I'm more in the middle, I get Eren and the Jaegerists' plans. Ironically its the same feeling Erwin had with the old regime, they are just doing it because they believe Eren to be humanity's (or New Eldian's) best hope. So it is a cycle, the old ways being challenged by the new, though with Eren being the catalyst both times. And the Eren shoe drop on Mikasa, is at least an interpretation of his attitude towards Mikasa. If we look at the past, Eren doesn't really treat Mikasa well. He thought those feelings of resentment was due to inferiority (her being stronger) but it was actually since she was so beholden to him like a slave. And he may not hate her because she's 'such a pathetic slave' but rather he hates that his dear friend is being forced into a slave-like state because of HIM. In Armin's case, Eren hates that Armin, while having a mind so brilliant, is still enslaved by an extremely weak body. So I feel like Eren doesn't really hate them, but rather the circumstances they have to live by, essentially slaves to their own bodies. Armin, to his credit, (while I'm not a fan of him sry) doesn't just go Colossal on Eren's ass and bites back with his retort that even Eren who has access to the powers of the Founding Titan still has to resort to choices that circumstances force him to, not those he freely chose. I think the tragedy is that Eren saw the world one way 'humans are free', and went all in, even if it was wrong. While frustrating, it is at least a consistent character motivation. P.S: This reminded me of Annie's words, about how she's just 'a weak girl being swept along with the flow, and that she just wants to be seen as human'. Because free or not, humans are still humans. So Eren doesn't get to be a dick even if they aren't free.

I just got done like really watching the reaction and... No, you didn't act "wrong" because there's no right or wrong way to react to things, that's just human nature. Which brings me to the next point I want to talk about: what Eren said about the memories and the whole "control" thing. (Not spoiling anything, these are just... my thoughts.) What Eren said about the memories and the mind control... Yeah, sure that happens, but we also need to remember that Mikasa and Armin and all the other Titan Shifters and "special people" like Levi and Mikasa, they're still human. And one thing all humans have is free will to think, feel and react the way they do. Think about the moments where Armin could've really acted like Bertholdt and he didn't. Think about the moments where Levi and Mikasa could've been acting completely different according to the "mind control" he mentioned, but they didn't. And no, Levi actually doesn't drink a lot of alcohol anymore (only in special events, and the thing is, he never actually gets drunk), the only beverage he does drinks daily is tea, which easily makes him my number 1 😂 I drink tea every single day and sometimes multiple times a day, maybe not the healthiest amounts. But I love tea, so no one's gonna be able to stop me even if they wanted to 😅 These episodes just HURT. No matter how many times you watch, every single time it hurts. And yes, I felt very much betrayed by Eren too. Even before this, when he killed all those civilians in Marley, that's when I was like "Oh... oh no..." His character actually was nominated for best protagonist AND antagonist. (He won best antagonist, so yeah...)

Truly a god amongst men for not leaving us hanging for these two episodes! 😅

Stoke me a clipper

You're on a roll! I'm still recovering from the newest episode and being sick 🫠 These episodes made me... not like Eren anymore, let's just say that. No matter what happens, you don't do that (in my opinion of course) I'm still here until the 16th so I can't wait for the next videos 🙏
