Respectfully disagree. Coming from the south it was pretty common growing up to see kids, at least partly, raised by the grandparents. And being with Worf’s pretty stable mom and dad seems preferable to keeping him on the “hope we don’t blow up this week” Enterprise.

Where does "Dorf" come from? Is it supposed to be funny?

Totally disagree. You find out you have a kid, his mother dies, so you ship him to live with your parents? That is horrible. Worf could have kept him there, or if he really thought that he needed more support, he could have moved next to his parents and resigned. You don't pretty much abandon your kid.

The other plot was only there to serve to put Alexander in danger in the end, so yeah a very subpar b plot. B plots that are only there to cause such a specific thing for the A plot are usually pretty bad. It would have been better if they just focused on worf and Alexander and have some like medical condition happen, so worf couldn’t use strength to fight it.

Worf faces his greatest challange yet... Being a dad. Good stuff with that. The other plot is meh. C+ for me, thanks as always 🖖

I can’t really get into more reasons without many future spoilers but speaking as a father he is an awful father. I wish I could go into details but even explaining why I can’t is a spoiler.

Episodes like this are why the term "Dorf" is needed. I generally prefer character stuff but... woof

A somewhat common take, but not one I really agree with. He's an inexperienced father, surely, and as we do throughout the series see a lot of the moments when he makes mistakes, but that is for the same reason that we see all the episodes where the Enterprise almost blows up or something when the reality is that it's supposed to be a lot more "dull" most of the time. We only see the interesting stuff precisely because that's what makes for a good episode.
Similarly, when we do see Worf and Alexander, it's often to try to make an interesting episode out of his inexperience and missteps. The bigger thing is that - and I hope this isn't really a spoiler to say - throughout TNG we see Alexander growing from what he is in this episode into a very upstanding kid, which means that obviously all the stuff Worf does the 99% of the time his parenting isn't being featured in an episode must be pretty good.

Worst dad ever award. Love Worf but he’s a pretty awful father.
