So I hate episode 13 with a passion mainly because of an idiotic line by Geordi. "So I wouldn't have been born?" No, you would have been born, just able to see. I know they "select the best embryos" or whatever. But this is a fallacious way of thinking. "Oh if you had done that, I wouldnt have been born." This type of thinking is thinking from your present to the past in a way that doesn't make sense. Because someone else would have been born who isnt now alive. Any person one could say "prevents other people from being born" but thats just silly. It's taking account of future personhood but... in the past? Is there an ethical obligation then to create every person who COULD be born? It makes no sense. Generally, I just get tired of trek shitting on genetic engineering. There are many diseases we could cure with genetic engineering that we dont because of some bs moratorium.
