It seems like there is another episode that you haven't watched yet that is very, very similar to this episode. I think that it is a much better episode, so I would have difficulty rating this one really high because of that. There also might be another episode where Troi is sort of taken over by an alien like that, but I can't remember.

2024-10-21 06:59:39 +0000 UTCTHIS is the episode that stole its plot from the early 1988 episode of Red Dwarf entitled "Thanks for the Memory". Of course, in that show it was all played for comedy, although that was one of Red Dwarf's more melancholy episodes which happened in a few of its early episodes. The two episodes are different enough though. That Red Dwarf episode is not remembered for being great -- "the episode was voted by readers ... in a 1992 poll as the 19th best episode of the 30 then existing... This made it the 5th-ranked of (6 episodes in) Series 2's episodes."
