UNCUT - Night Gallery - Eyes (Pilot)

I was wondering another one of Steven Spielberg's early projects was Duel with Dennis Weaver. I was wondering if you guys could review that someday? Thanks.

ugh, this was meant for the "devil's due" discussion, wrong place, sorry

come to think of it, your reaction was more akin to mind seeing it the first time as a middle schooler. Not to compare you to a middle schooler, but my incorporation of star trek lore was in its early stages so those elements didn't suspend disbelief for me. By the way, I'm not a trekkie. I'm a punk rocker who is neuroatypical and has a crazy memory for plots and especially big picture narratives (geschwind, the opposite of autism) so this is like DC, or Buffy for me, but it's just one of many interests, my being well versed is more a function of my neurotype then my specific commitment to a franchise (which I think isn't inherently a ludicrous statement but which has become since with what social media has done to "fandoms") Yes, tangenital comment

I liked him on Wait Till Your Father Gets Home.

Were Josh & Alex aware the donor was the dad from Happy Days (Tom Bosley)? The bad guy in the first one was Roddy McDowall from Planet of the Apes, and also guest-starred as Mr. Carson, Barry Atwater, who had been Surak, father of all Vulcans hold true, in "Savage Curtain" on TOS, as well as the vampire on The Night Stalker. One of the Israeli agents in the third segment was played by George Murdock, the admiral in the Borg battle at Wolf 359, and also God in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.

Joan Crawford was one of the HUGE Hollywood stars from the 1920s to the 60s... a true legend. In later years she has obtained a reputation of being a horrible person due to the book and movie Mommie Dearest, though in reality her life was more nuanced. Though no doubt some of her reputation was earned, she was also known for her kindness and generosity. Spielberg was an acne-faced 22-year-old who was absolutely terrified to be working with her on his first project. Apparently she was very kind and supportive to him and even lied about having worked with him before so that the crew would respect him. They remained friends until she died a few years later.

TV in the '60 & '70s had a lot of actors you saw over and over in several different shows, Tom Bosley being one of them. I guess I never considered that "he's a good actor," he, along with a hundred others were just always on shows and you believed whatever role it was. They could be a doctor or vagabond one day and the next a cowboy or a senator without missing a beat and you just accepted it. When you're a kid, those are just the people living inside the tube and you don't give much thought to their abilities, lol.

I was around when these came out and as a kid - Night Gallery was the show that would give me nightmares.

Serling did not have much, if any, control over this show like he did with Twilight Zone. He did write episodes and hosted but was not the show runner.

Collin Freeman

If you have not seen the TV movie Duel with Dennis Weaver, I highly recommend it. Another Spielberg early effort, and in the suspense/horror genre. I think you both would like it, especially if you like Alfred Hitchcock’s directorial style (or even John Carpenter).

Great reaction! Love the pacing on the one, takes its time to get there. Spielberg started off hot for sure.
