Well Jordi sleeps in his uniform so…

Thank god he wasn’t in a white dress uniform πŸ˜‚

When Is saw that the uniforms didn't change much in 16 years I knew it was a ruse.

There are times when I'm pretty sure the writers steal ideas from the Star Trek Bantam Books, and I'm damned sure they stole this idea from one called 'Timetrap' a 1988 novel by David Dvorkin that a near contemporary release to this episode, which came out in 1990. In that novel, it is Kirk that is swept up in a storm and supposedly wakes up in the future, this time 100 years, but is being brain-tricked by the Klingons, not the Romulans. The similarities are too close to be a coincidence....

Yeah, that was a BIG problem. I can barely remember a B-plot in the original series. Shatner was usually too much of a camera hog to put up with a bunch of B-plots, but that actually ended up being a good thing although I don't think many people felt that way at the time. The original series had 3 actors that really needed to be in every episode. However, Star Trek: The Next Generation really needed to have a whole crew in every episode -- Stewart, Frakes, Spiner, Burton, Dorn, McFadden/Muldaur, AND Sirtis not to mention Wil Wheaton, Whoopi, Colm Meaney, and Denise Crosby (in the beginning) in EVERY episode. That's WAY too clunky. The huge 1000-person starship felt like it only had a dozen senior crewmen or a dozen crewmen who were allowed to speak -- for some weird reason.

Agreed. When guys said Trek is like Twilight Zone in space you really hit on something there. There are some great concepts, and when the writing is really good, some great twists and turns. You know what I noticed? Episodes with a β€œB” plot aren’t good (usually) as ones where the entire episode focuses on one story and plot.

Colonel Sanders Picard lol.

Your intro was worse than a "Next Time on Staaaarrr Trek: The Next Generation" preview. LOL! BTW, Colm Meany was away in Ireland filming "The Commitments" when these recent episodes were produced.

Lou Trek

A or B tier for me. That goatie knocked it down a peg

I think this is one of my favorite Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes. I love the Twilight Zone-like alternative reality episodes. I guess you can't do those all the time as you need a foundation from which to divert. Josh did a really good job spotting Min as the name for Minuet. To me episodes like this are so much better than the last one which felt like just a bad Latin American soap opera with Klingons. Even bringing in a overgrown child. Wikipedia has an entire article entitled "Soap opera rapid aging syndrome" which is amusing: "In As the World Turns, Tom Hughes was born onscreen in 1961. By 1970, he had been to college and fought in the Vietnam War. Subsequent recasting exhibited a reverse phenomenon, keeping him in his 30s for 20 years, with Tom hitting his 40s in the 1990s."

Just FYI, Memory Alpha, the Star Trek database online didn’t officially launch until 2003. When this episode aired, the only way to find out about Minuet was to either have watched that episode when it aired or reruns. As far as I can determine, the VHS tape for the Minuet episode released after Future Imperfect aired. So, yes, quite ballsy.

10 days in a coma and still in his duty uniform. Including his comm badge and boots. What kind of hellish sickbay is Beverly running?

Kurt Linke

Great YouTube edit guys. I’ve been ranking these from memory and I know I tend to over hype episodes in my mind and end up give a lower tier rating to compensate. Gotta go with my gut instinct more often.

William T. Sanchez didn't know he was in a simulation inside of a simulation... inside of another simulation!

I think the patron score is due to us knowing the ending. I saw this when I was 8, so it hasn't been a mystery for 30+ years, so it's easy to overlook how great it is.

They also gave picard the evil spock beard

alexander hall

This one is a solid A for me. One of the best for sure, but honestly, not much rewatch value for me personally.

Hunter Sherwood

This one is a fav. Even though I know the ending, I still enjoy going through the motions with Riker in the illusions. Thanks for the reaction.

Dru Blood

Lmao they spent so much money on the future enterprise set, planet cave set, and the romulan base set they only had $45 for a spirit Halloween alien costum for the boy.

Fishing Trip

This is definitely a top tier episode.
