'Peak Performance' is Star Trek's First Great Ensemble Episode

Comments

TNG I always felt did a much better job than TOS at being an ensemble show. It felt like Kirk, Spock & McCoy took up 70% of the relevant screen time, while Scotty got 12-15%, and Sulu, Chekov & Uhura got the scraps, with Sulu being a bit better off out of the 3. TNG to some extent has a similar setup with Picard, Data & Worf being very prominent throughout the series, Riker in the middle, and Crusher, Troi and LaForge having less to work with, but whether it was a commitment to use all the characters or just the fact they had over twice as many episodes to work with, the split between most and least utilized character is far less severe. Also the TNG cast had about the best working dynamic of any of the trek series. Those people loved working together and remain friends till this day, and I think it shows in their performance.

You mention the last of this format for this season. I take it you won't be making a clip show of your reactions to the clip episode?

Colby Scovil-Turton

I don't see Data as being human at all. But he does have a unique humanity.

Did you guys notice the USS Hathaway is the same class of starship as the USS Stargazer from “The Battle”, S1 e9?

The original preview ads are such jarring reminders that "spoilers" are a relatively recent concern for producers. And Calamari playing Stragema nearly had me spitting out my coffee.

The movie Dark Waters made me lose basically all faith in government regulation

3:01 You know I just read a story about an ice cream that was found to take up to... like, 11 days to melt or something. They found some chemical in it that's banned pretty much everywhere else in the world. That's because the rest of the world are dirty commies. *hacks up a lung and passes out*
