QUESTIONS & TOPICS FOR WHATEVER THIS IS

This month brings the return of 'Whatever This Is' with a new format! It will be a video podcast discussion series where Alex & Josh talk about movies, TV, YouTube, or anything else. This series will have portions uploaded to the YouTube channel, but the full episodes will be EXCLUSIVE to Patreon! We want you, the Patrons, to have a large role in determining topics we discuss as well as asking us questions that we will answer on the series.

Comment on this post a question for us to answer, or a topic idea for us to discuss. There are no guidelines or restrictions. We will attempt to answer as many questions as we can, and if we are interested in your topic suggestion we will use it for the show. Feel free to post a few comments, but please don't spam with too many. You will get this opportunity for every episode of 'Whatever This Is', which we plan to record every 4-6 weeks. Keep in mind Star Trek related stuff is fine, but it is not the focus of this project so other topics are more likely to be used.

We have had many requests in the past by Patrons to have live chats or "town hall" type content. While this series will not be live (as of right now), it is our attempt to answer those requests in a way that we think will be fun and entertaining. YOUR engagement and interest is what brought this series about, and that is what will keep it alive. We hope you enjoy!

We are recording the episode on Monday, so please have your questions/topics commented over the weekend. Here are a few general ideas of what kind of topics we are looking to discuss, but you don't have to stick to this criteria:

- A recently released movie/TV show

- Movie/TV show related topics such as "favorites" or specific actors/directors/genres

- Hollywood/film industry news

- Internet content such as YouTube channels or websites

- Recent content on our YouTube/Patreon channel and ideas for the future

Comments

When you read your Patreon takes in your discussion videos, you say that you read all the comments. I’m just curious if you read them all out loud during that time, and then make the cuts later for the videos.. or do you read all the comments at a later time?

TalynStarburst

You said recently that no show that you tried on the "first season run" hooked you like Star Trek. What made Trek special for you? What got you hooked on it unlike other shows?

Andreas Schmitt

Yes! I was going to add Lexx and Farscape to my list but figured i was already too long winded.

Connor Fallon

Hi Connor, 2 Great suggestions there. Did you like my suggestion of Lexx?

Duane Chancey

1 other thing, are you getting a kick out of showing off the Autos I sent you to all your Friends and Relatives? if you guys decide to hang them on a wall...maybe 2 walls πŸ˜‰ I'd love to see a pic of that!

Duane Chancey

Hey guys, I have 2 questions for you. #1 Have you ever heard of the T.V. Show Lexx? It consists of 4 made for tv movies and 57 Eps. It aired on the Sci-Fi Channel in the late 90s. it was an odd but interesting show! #2 I've been trying to figure out a few new Auto pics to send you. I know Alex you like The Shinning alot and Josh you mentioned Loving SpongeBob when you were young. I have a couple 1000 Autos but no SpongeBob Voice actors, can you tell me any other Fav actors you have from other T.V. Shows or Movies? Most of my Autographs are of actors from T.V. & Movies from the 1960s to the early 2000s. Thanks! πŸ˜€πŸ––

How do you avoid the copyright nonsense that a lot of other channels seem to really struggle with? What plans, if any, do you have if this starts to become an issue? Any thoughts on the Paramount / Warner Bros. merger?

Tuomas Leone

Is Hollywood dead?

Tim b

As you noted at the time, you reacted to Galaxy Quest very early into Star trek journey, and were therefore likely to miss many of the ways in which that movie both parodied and paid homage to the original Star Trek series in particular. Are you still open to revisiting Galaxy Quest in some fashion?

David Felgate

Transporter malfunction is my guess.

StonyD

What's your favorite Warp Speed effect: The rainbow tunnel from the TOS movies or the rubberband-flash from TNG?

StonyD

Not a specific question, but I'm just curious how things work behind the scenes. For example how you balance YouTube and Patreon, filming, editing, reading through all the comments yet still have a life outside of it.

Have you seen The Good Place? One of the best tv shows off the 21st century. It's a comedy about dead people, moral philosophy and what it means to be good. If you think that sounds weird you're right, it does but it somehow works and is a hilarious show that's also educational, never boring and manages to tell a great story in just 4 short seasons.

Phillip Grischa

Do you think your experience with wrestling gives you more insight into the art of performance? I remember both of you showing appreciation for the fighting scenes in Star Trek, but are there other examples you can cite where you think your viewing enjoyment was positively or negatively affected by your experience with wrestling?

Captain Proton

Our reaction to the original is actually available here on the Patreon

Josh (Target Audience)

I'm sure both you guys have seen the 1953 George Pal version of the War of the Worlds (one of my top 5 favorite sci fi movies of all time) which set the industry standard for sci fi movies of the period, and I'm sure you have watched the Tom Cruise remake of 2005. What are your thoughts comparing the two? ( I myself did not like the 2005 version at all)

Monty Crawford

I'm a little curious myself about their normal jobs, if they have one. And if their youtube/patreon efforts become successful enough that they will quit them and go full time on youtube/patreon.

Monty Crawford

Do you plan on doing other big sci fi shows like the expanse or battlestar galactica’s remake, or even just some other big series from the past few decades? (Things like V or Buck Rodgers, maybe other campy series)

Connor Fallon

Favorite comedy movie?

JD Nevesytrof

Saltburn: yae or nay?

Ken R

What caused Josh to split into Regular Josh and Q&A Josh? Were you ever able to track down the problem?

tyranusfan

Have either of watched the Reacher series on Prime, and if so, what are your thoughts/opinions?

Collin Freeman

If the holodeck was a real thing, what kinda programs would you guys like to use it for?

DataDroid

The recent writers' strike had a massive impact on many working-class film and TV industry professionals, which is a given. It also affected the viewing public. For example, due to the lack of programming, I started seeking new forms of entertainment and discovered your channel during that search. Your episodes are now a part of my weekly viewing. I imagine we can talk all day about the ramifications and the future of content consumption, but here is what I really want to know from each of you. What is your favorite jam? Not talking jelly’s of marmalades, talking about jam. Thanks fellas.

I Like Jam

What do close friends and family members think of your channel? Has any of them become huge fans like the rest of us?

TalynStarburst

I was wondering if you guys would like to do something similar to the 'Patreon Takes', but from you guys, sharing what you think the episode could be about just based on the episode title of course. It doesn't have to be an elaborate thing, maybe just the first thing that comes to your mind when you see the episode title, what it could be about or which character could be the center of attention.

DataDroid

What is your days like on your regular jobs?

TalynStarburst

All time favorite wrestlers HEEL and BABY FACE?

Steven Johnson

Can you tell us about a typical week in regard to running the channel? How has it changed / what have you learned and so on?

Paul Rymer
