2024-01-02 23:31:59 +0000 UTCI've been wondering about this issue myself (although, Anthony, I think it would be better if you edited your comment to remove the episode title and just leave the number, which is sufficient). On the one hand, TNG S2E9 is the only TV episode (as opposed to movie) in the entire Star Trek franchise which is available in an extended version with the deleted scenes integrated back into the story. The difference is not minor; the extended version adds *13 minutes* of footage, the total running time being 57 minutes. (This is almost the equivalent of expanding a 90-minute movie to 2 hours!) There is, I believe, consensus in Star Trek fandom that the extended version is superior to the original. Since the extended version appears on the Blu-ray release, Alex and Josh already have it in their possession. On the other hand, the extended version is, as far as I know, exclusive to the Blu-ray, and not available on Paramount+ or digital download. This means many viewers would be unable to sync the reaction to the extended episode, as Brendon pointed out. Alex and Josh may well decide that it is more straightforward and preferable to react to the televised version. I'll be disappointed myself if that's the case, but it will be understandable.

2024-01-02 18:53:33 +0000 UTCI think they should watch the original version that's existed for over thirty years, the extended version is a nice bonus feature from recent years, but the original version is the proper version of the episode, there's nothing crucial missing from it and not everybody has access to the extended version to sync up.

2024-01-02 17:11:55 +0000 UTCJust to give you guys a heads-up, this is in regards to Season 2 of TNG, now I know you'll only be reacting to episodes 1-5 this month, but I want to let y'all know in advance, that when you get to the 9th episode of the season, there is an HD extended version of it, please be sure to watch that version instead of the regular version of the episode, because it features key moments related to the episode. Now I will not go into any details at all, I assure you, but please trust me on this. You won't regret it. Update: actually, Alex & Josh, after you react to the televised version of S2E9, definitely react to the HD extended version of S2E9. Make it so. Captain's orders. ππ
