Star Trek doesn’t have villains

For me this episode is stronger than the previous 2. The lower production values from being produced so much earlier are jarring, but it's still pretty memorable. It also goes to show that Kirk Fu and Shatner tearing his shirt were tropes that were firmly established from the start. There are a lot of similarities to Charlie X with the questions of what happens when a mortal attains god like powers, and how corrupting it would be, but I think that story was more compelling with Gary Mitchell. Probably because he started out as a fairly normal, well adjusted person. I also think Kirk was written a bit better here. Pretty good episode. Should have been the pilot.

This episode was originally aired third which is jarring for the first time viewer because it was originally filmed a year before the series was picked up and has so many differences. They didn't intend to air it, but when the third airdate rolled around, they had no other episodes ready to go, so they were forced to.

I skipped a bunch of Season 3 and will just watch the YouTube versions, but I will always enjoy the full lengths from Seasons 1 and 2, I will watch those seasons over and over!

Considering I watched Trek before and will watch it again, watching these "lost episodes" of TA seems perfectly normal.

Feels weird watching these early episodes now that we've finished the whole series. It's like deja vu all over again. Always willing to revisit the TOS episodes, though. Thanks for posting these uncut early episodes, guys.

It is chuckle worthy to see the confusion this early on who is an important crew member and not and throw in the release order. Now after watching you guys go through the who series it is a bit funny. The uniforms, where's McCoy, Sulu the whole bit. Love it.

I gotta get into the right state of mind to go back this far... "When's the next episode coming out?"
