PATREON EXCLUSIVE UNCUT REACTION - Battlestar Galactica (1978) Episode 13 - The Living Legend Part 2

It came out later that the Pegasus would have shown up again had the show gotten a second season. As it is, like you said, it's up to interpretation.

The plan was 3 TV-movies, so starting with The Living Legend the two-parters were written to be part of the series. I think the pacing of the Part 1 episodes gets better as a result of that.

I believe the reason why the two parters are better is because it wasn’t to be a series but 5 or 6 TV movies so these were written before the decision to turn it into a series. So the single episodes were written later.

Fuck you Brad, I wasn't talking to you.

My favourite scenes in part 2 are showing the Cylons gathered on Gamoray. It is the first time we see what Cylon civilians look like even though only the copper Cylon and a couple I.L. series have a couple lines we never hear a word from the 3rd generation Cylon models but they were simply there to show there are more Cylon models than the two we have become used to. Baltar's ship had pulled back to have the other two Basestars battle the Pegasus. We never see nor hear from Cane of the Pegasus again but Baltar will return so no matter what happened to the Pegasus the two Basestars were destroyed and Baltar slipped out of the battle with his Basestar while the 3 of them were locked in battle. When you guys mentioned about how this felt like a new season it definitely does especially the next episode, watch for an unexpected change with Boxey, there is a bit of a growth spurt, not much but the outfit he wears will make it seem like a couple years have passed. Also the DVD box set is split into 2 volumes with volume 2 starting with the very next episode. We will see Athena again but her time onscreen won't last much longer. Apparently with the addition of Sheeba and a general feeling by the writers and producers that her storyline as well as her acting is pretty flat that they simply stopped writing for her when her lines could be said by Omega or Col. Tigh etc on the Bridge.

I agree about it having the feel of a new season. This show should have a shorter season ep count so it works for me. There is a change in direction that starts from here. Good call never really thought of it like that.

Thanks. I had forgotten she had that diagnosis.

Maren Jensen had to quit acting in 1981 due to Epstein-Barr syndrome. It might have already been starting to limit her a bit.

Coincidentally, Jack Stauffer (who played Bojay) recently had to have a leg amputated in real life. Laurette Spang (Cassiopeia) has set up a GoFundMe to help pay for his home health care while he recovers. https://www.gofundme.com/f/jack-stauffer Yes, those Cylons in the gold robes are Cylon civilians. Their function isn't quite clear, but they seem a little simplistic next to the other types of Cylons. Remember, that's not Cylon architecture on the planet because the Cylons killed off the Delphian Empire and took over their city as a base. They do seem to keep the grass mowed, though. Maybe that's what the civilians do. Oh, and the reason for all the ADR in that one scene was to make the terminology consistent because some characters were saying "base ships" while others were saying "base stars." They're interchangeable terms, but I guess they didn't want to have both used in the same conversation.

Definitely my favorite 2-parter for sure, and probably my favorite episodes overall. That being said, this might be a pinnacle of the original BG series. As I recall, the remaining half of the season was better than the 1st half but not as good as this 2-parter. This whole battle reminded me of the World War 2 Battle of Midway, with the Colonials being the US and the cylons being the Japanese. You were right - the back and forth of plans and new plans and counter plans is very much like real battles, as at Midway. Good question about side-lining Athena. I don't know why but I wish they had used her more. I guess the other characters were just more popular and took over the screen time from Maren Jensen (who was new to acting when she was in this series). As for Sheba - stay tuned and find out. :-)
