PATREON EXCLUSIVE UNCUT REACTION - Battlestar Galactica (1978) Episode 10 - The Magnificent Warriors

Comments

The actor Rance Howard who was killed at the beginning of the episode is known for being he father of director Ron Howard and actor Clint Howard from Star Trek's The Corbomite Maneuver episode.

Appreciate you watching these. I’m catching back up after falling a bit behind…

In regards to the bronze/gold Cylon commanders, there is one longer cut of the waves of Cylon raiders approaching that you see once in a while. If you ca catch it, the last fighter in the line is painted gold. Apparently, a commander's fighter (leading from behind, I guess).

You may have missed that the deal was only with Nogow. The rest of the Borays agreed to go back to growing their own food, so they are only providing Nogow with everything he needs.

I am confused by how many people on this can't say warrior it sounds like they are saying worriers. In particular Adama you would think he would know.

The decision to go to a weekly series came late in the game, but not that late. All the advance promotion for the show said it would be a weekly series, so it wasn't a decision made after the premiere.

Actually the first episode, Saga of a Star World was the three hour premier of Battlestar Galactica. ABC had originally commissioned three Battlestar Galactica movies which they would run as movie of the week specials. After the premier, the ratings were so high that ABC wanted to go to a weekly series ASAP. The remaining two hour movies, Lost planet of the gods and The gun on ice planet zero were cut into four one-hour episodes in order to give the production team time to start pumping out additional episodes.

Ron Howard has since moved beyond acting and has become a strong accomplished director with the awesome movie Apollo 13 as well as numerous other films under his belt.

Brad Barter

Well that’s good news at least

Correct, from here on the 2-parters were written as 2-parters, so the pacing and structure are better.

James H

Gotcha, yeah there were definitely YouTube comments on our preview videos that thought they were scripts for tv movies floating out there. If what you’re saying is the case though then that wouldn’t be for every 2-parter since there are more than 3 correct?

Josh (Target Audience)

By the way, the title is a reference to “The Magnificent Seven,” which inspired the storyline. Glad you guys enjoyed this one.

Rance Howard is Ron Howard's dad, who was a career actor and coached his son in acting even before Ron played Opie on the Andy Griffith show. Barry Nelson (Sire Bogan) had quite a long successful career, usually in supporting roles. One interesting trivial fact: Barry Nelson played and an Americanized James Bond in the first ever screen version of Casino Royale in 1954 on a television anthology series called Climax. And yes, he was in The Shining as Stuart Ullman.

Collin Freeman

Oh, as for the 2-parters, you guys may have misunderstood my earlier comments or someone else's. They were always intended to be Galactica, but in the early stages Galactica was planned to be in the form of three TV-movies instead of a weekly series. So they were just re-edited into two parts. The main change was Baltar's appearance in Ice Planet Zero, which was filmed later, after they decided not to kill him off.

The Agro ship exteriors are actually reused footage of a ship from the 1972 movie "Silent Running," which Universal owned the rights to. Very handy.
