UNCUT REACTION - Star Trek The Original Series - S1E29 Operation - Annihilate

Comments

I want to start by saying that this second watch through the full reaction is fun as hell. Seeing J&A watch TOS before they were tainted with the high brow TNG, with its Shakespeare acting and themes. Just good ole punch people. But now for the season ending entry for the SEX SCORE BOARD TOS Sex Scoreboard No real new scores. Kirk 4 Bones 1 Spock 1 Extras: Sam +1 new? Bones said that Aurelan had a HIGH tolerance to pain. Clearly this is from the BDSM sex games that Sam and her played so score 1 for a Kirk but not James. Sam -1 new? No way is Peter an Kirk offspring. That kid is way to ugly so Sam loses the score. Spock almost/sort of +1 There was penetration, and a pregnancy so did Spock get banged by the brain-cell thingy? We will not count it but sort of. Now End of season. The score board is way lower than I thought. At this point TOS is pretty lame when it comes to the knockin' boots part of the show. We will see what the future holds

Pretty decent finale, but really dragged down IMO by the death of Sam Kirk and his wife being so quickly forgotten. I get the last episode ended on despondent Kirk and they didn't want to make it a trend, but Edith was a woman he just met, Sam was his brother. I did like the process of figuring out how to kill the creatures. Quite a few scenarios like that in Trek. I suppose this episode, right down to the title, isn't particularly "Treky", but every once in a while you just can't negotiate. In retrospect, this episode reminds me a lot of Conspiracy on TNG.

You forgot that in the drunk episode (Naked Time) Nurse Chapel confessed her true love for Mr Spock, which explains her momentary unprofessionalism concerning his treatment this episode.

I used to watch "Star Trek" on TV in the '70s and '80s and they would edit out scenes for time so they could fit in more commercials. So, when I watch it again now, even though I've seen the episodes many, many times, there are some scenes which I have never seen before. It is a bit weird.

I've put off watching the God Father for 30years - maybe I will get around to it in my 70s...

I haven't watched this yet, need to cook dinner first, but when I saw this as a child, this freaked me out. Dad didn't help by saying that the 'flying amoebas' were gonna catch me and suck out my brains. But that bit at the end is a pure classic.

Very excited to watch Strange New Worlds in my 40s!

It’s one of the jokes in Trekdom that Kirk’s brother is the most forgettable tragedy to happen to James Kirk. However, not to be ignored forever, Sam Kirk is back in Strange New Worlds. You guys will get to that show in about 14 years or so. Mid pack is about where this episode belongs. I have Paramount+ so syncing is perfect for me. Season 2 finally gets a permanent navigator: Chekov, completing the cast.

I am only as smart as IMDB

The Deneva outdoor scenes were shot at the headquarters of TRW Space and Defense Park in Redondo Beach, California (currently [2021] the Northrop Grumman Space Technology headquarters).

As you said, a solid episode worth watching, but not one of the top 10. Aside from totally disregarding Sam Kirk's death, my other big beef of this episode is the Vulcan inner eyelid. They were always coming up with things like that to make Spock super-human, which made thinking any real jeopardy was at stake with Spock involved was highly unlikely.

Filmed at TRW Space and Defense Park (now Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems) in Redondo Beach, California

His brother Sam was mentioned by Kirk and the android Kirk in What Are Little Girls Made Of?
