I watched this movie so many times during covid work from home...so many times, but never the extended scenes. So, the author of the book that this movie is based on is an engineer, all the science, except for the severity of the storm at the beginning, is based on real science and verified by NASA scientists...if you have a chance, read his other books...hoping more movies come from them.

There are 3 you haven't met yet but you will in April :-) To be fair though when I watched this movie I had no idea about marvel lol By the way, if you want to know more about what it takes to be an astronaut and since Trin is french/lives in France, she should read "Dans la combi de Thomas Pesquet", very funny but also very instructive and pretty amazing once you realize what they have to go through to be honest! I don't know if it's been translated in English.

Donald Glover btw is no relation to Danny. He is a big name is his own right though. Was on the TV Series Community, and Then the Awesome Atlanta, and he's also a musician known as "Childish Gambino". Talented guy.

As much as I like Matt Damen , the book Mark is just SO much better! and like all books goes into much more detail. My favourite scene just so happens to not be in the movie at all, goes to show that books are almost always better even if the movie is really, really good.

From what I have read it wouldn't have been that bad, but Weir needed a good reason for Watney to be left behind. But from other things I have read and seen the science pretty much holds up with some inaccuracies here and there.

And, imo, Matt Damon was perfect for this role. It just wouldn’t have been as good with anyone else as Watney. Thank you Rob and Trin for a great reaction.

2023-03-26 12:31:15 +0000 UTCWhen I saw Sean Bean in this movie, I thought to myself, 'If he dies in this movie, when HE's safe on earth, I give up.' lol The all-purpose duct tape. What a wonderful tool to have for any emergency. But, having just tape & plastic between that outside & me, would drive me insane. Such stress. I didn't read this book - yet, but I read (or heard) somewhere that Andy Weir, the author, took some liberties on the science of it all, but tried to be as true to the science of space travel as he could, without bogging the story down with unnecessary detail, to just to be enjoyed as the science fiction that it is. And, from what I've heard, the movie is pretty close to the book. Frickin' crazy movie, and I love it!

The whole plot of him finishing the research was not in the original. The journey to the launch site at the end was a lot shorter. And many other smaller moments. Thanks!
