I think Jimmy became Slipping Jimmy BECAUSE of Chuck. The perfect Chuck, who never did anything fun or out-of-the-box. It must have drove Jimmy to do things just to rattle the "stick-up-his-butt" Chuck. And there lies the start of the rivalry between the two. Jimmy loves Chuck, and I think Chuck loves Jimmy (in his own way), but brothers will rival. It is known.

2023-01-05 13:30:00 +0000 UTCWithholding the last words of their mother from Jimmy was sickening. I think Jimmy was more loved by his parents, or at least shown more love than chuck was. Does not necessarily mean their parents actually loved 1 more then the other. I think this is what fueled Chucks deep jealousy for Jimmy at a young age. On top of that, Jimmy is more like-able then Chuck and Chuck despises this. As we saw in S01E09 when Chuck tells Jimmy "Your not a real lawyer, just because you can people laugh etc". This also stems from the flash back we saw when Jimmy is making Chucks wife laugh and even after all the shit talking that Chuck did about his brother to his wife, all it took was one visit for Jimmy to completely change her mind. More jealousy when Chuck realizes the failure of his jokes. What we have witnessed is that Chuck loves to be the one who gets Jimmy out of problems because he loves seeing Jimmy get into those problems in the first place. Regardless of all the corners Jimmy cut, he truly loves chuck. I can't see this being vice-versa. The length that Chuck goes through to try to destroy Jimmys life; Calling Howard at night draining Jimmys cell phone to bar Jimmy from working at HHM. Accusing him of soliciting clients, and generally trying very hard to deteriorate his self-esteem is just sad. Getting Mesa Verde back not for the clients, or the reputation, but as a way to further vicariously destroy Jimmys happiness.

Chuck's biggest problem with Jimmy has always been that no matter how big of a screw-up Jimmy was, he was always their parents' favorite. Chuck was the good one. He went to law school, went on to become very successful, but he was never appreciated as much as Jimmy, the scam artist little brother who who stole from their father's business and was arrested so many times. Chuck never left his mother's side no matter what and was going to go hungry no matter what. Jimmy couldn't wait for Chuck and left to get sandwiches and when his mother wakes up and calls out for Jimmy and not Chuck before she dies, that absolutely destroyed Chuck. It was no matter how hard he tried, he could never get the same level of appreciation from people as his little brother could, hence the jealousy and resentment. Sure, one could argue that he didn't tell Jimmy to protect him, since Jimmy would have to live with that guilt for the rest of his life. I totally understand that perspective, but on the other hand, it just seems that because of how hurt, angry, resentful Chuck is at Jimmy and knowing how jealous he is of his brother for that reason, I took it as he was just so angry at Jimmy for leaving that he didn't want to tell him the truth.

If Chuck had told Jimmy his mom woke up before she died after he'd gone out for a sandwich and called for him before dying I imagine Jimmy would have been devastated and wracked with guilt. Not entirely sure him saying no was out of spite tbh. Its always so complicated to read with them two.
