Yeah, that moment where Cain welcomes them to the fleet was amazing. Masterfully written and masterfully acted, because my reflexive thought was, "Bish fuck off, this is OUR fleet!"
Didn't even consciously notice the hand rotation, I just felt that the handshake was very formal, very firm and very dominant. I imagined that there was a precise way in which officers of different ranks greeted one another, right down to the number of seconds and hand positions during handshakes.
Now you've pointed it out though, I wonder if Cain added that part herself. It does fit her personality, and in that moment she has to show everybody exactly who's boss. She may have a giant battlestar, but she's also taking control of what, 40-odd ships? She has to be the baddest bastard in the room, or at least that's probably how she feels.

I don't know all that they trimmed, but I know they trimmed a few seconds of Lieutenant Thorne attacking Sharon. In the version that was broadcast, it's more ambiguous as to whether he actually raped her or not. In this version, he did.
Sharon also screamed "I'll tell you!" before Thorne got... well, fully engaged in the attack, I'll put it like that. After he'd hit her and it was clear what his intent was. Proves that Thorne found the attack much more worthwhile than identifying the ship. Either he didn't hear it because there was a lot going on, or he simply didn't care.

The cues near the start of the episode that tell you who Cain is are amazing filmmaking. The Pegasus loaming OVER Galactica, Cain welcoming THEM to the fleet, and my favorite, Cain shaking hands with Adama and literally rotating her hand so that it's on top.

The episode is a great example of the atrocities that can be gleefully committed against those that are considered subhuman.

I was surprised when you said you had no idea what the episode was about from the title. I figured you would know exactly since the two episode from the original series with Lloyd Bridges as Commander Cain of the Pegasus and the introduction of Sheba his daughter was a fan fav. Glad it was a surprise

It’s a phenomenal episode and I really enjoyed your reaction. Your initial excitement at Pegasus turning up, quickly followed by feelings of foreboding as you wonder how it will change things is exactly how I felt first watching it. It’s taken time but Adama and Roslin have learnt to trust and respect each other, and they have both come to understand that sometimes rules need to be broken and out of the box thinking is required. Then along comes straight as an arrow, hardass Admiral Cain and you just know that she and Adama are going to butt heads.
The assault on Sharon is so hard to watch, the part where she cries and hides under the blanket always makes me cry. Whatever she is, no one deserves that and yes, seeing her rapist get his brains bashed out is kinda satisfying.

I can’t seem to use the first or second links to watch the video - the first says the number of playbacks has been exceeded and the second link says it is unable to decrypt it or something.
Help!

What an ep. Glad you enjoyed it!
The disturbing thing is in retrospect finding out what the Six prisoner went through, despite having all those injuries, the idea of all those scumbags raping her for months is just so beyond disturbing its hard to get your head around. Very dark and fucked up ep but one of the greatest.
One thing that especially adds foreboding feeling, is the fact that Pegasus is twice the size of Galactica. This is very much not a fair fight, Adama's got some balls on him lol.
