Chapter 70: Lord Beerus

Xavier was momentarily stunned as he recognized the newcomer, his eyes narrowing slightly.
Staggering towards him was none other than Adriel's student, Merus!
His gaze lingered on her, observing carefully. Xavier noted that Merus's power level had nearly reached 850—a remarkable feat.
"Wow, such a high power level at such a young age; no wonder she's always so aloof!"
If he remembered correctly, Adriel’s student was not even five years old yet. Such power, even among elite warriors, was exceedingly rare. Legend has it that Vegeta was already battling Saibamen when Planet Vegeta met its demise.
Merus's talent might just rival that of Vegeta, the only one of her age who could surpass her.
Luckily, Merus was a girl; had she been a boy, she likely wouldn't have been able to live so freely. However, with such potential, she was undoubtedly already on King Vegeta’s list for special training.
Xavier smiled nonchalantly, deciding it was none of his concern, and turned to leave.
But Merus had already spotted him in the crowd and waved. Pretending not to see her, Xavier walked in the opposite direction!
She actually pretended not to see me! Merus's adorable eyebrows furrowed, her cheeks puffing out in dissatisfaction as she hurried after him, blocking his path with fierce eyes:
"You! Pretending not to see me, do you even know who I am?"
"Oh, isn’t this Miss Merus? I’m in a rush to get back; could you please move aside?"
"You!"
Merus was infuriated by Xavier’s dismissive attitude. Grabbing his sleeve, she said sternly, "If you weren’t Master Adriel’s nephew, I wouldn’t bother with you at all!"
Proudly lifting her head as if to say, talking to you should be considered an honor.
"Yes, yes, thank you, Miss Merus, for your gracious attention. I shall remember your kindness."
Xavier was startled by her unwarranted sense of superiority, finding it amusing. Reflexively, he wanted to pat her head but seeing her puffed-up little face, he withdrew his hand with a chuckle.
After all, she was just a little girl under five. Xavier didn’t want to argue with her, so he placated her small vanity and prepared to leave.
But just then, a purple figure appeared in the distance among the crowd.
It was a gaunt creature with long purple ears, resembling a mummy freshly risen from the grave, its eyes slightly bulging, dressed in attire akin to that of an Egyptian pharaoh.
Given that Planet Vegeta was a melting pot of various alien races, the creature’s bizarre attire didn’t draw much attention from the onlookers.
However, upon first seeing the figure, Xavier felt a chill run down his spine, and cold sweat began to bead on his forehead.
"Lord Beerus, the God of Destruction, here on Planet Vegeta?" Xavier gasped in shock, hardly believing that he was witnessing the presence of Lord Beerus himself.
Such a figure was fickle and formidable!
In the vast world of Dragon Ball, many powerful deities lurked, but someone like Lord Beerus stood at the very pinnacle of the universe, being one of its mightiest entities.
Angering him could lead to Planet Vegeta being wiped from existence with a mere flick of his finger.
At the level of a God of Destruction, creation and destruction were merely a thought away. To them, good and evil held little significance; their duty was to impartially maintain the balance of the universe.
Destruction, when deemed necessary, was executed without mercy.
The realms of good and evil, as perceived by mortals, held no relevance to such deities. They operated on a cosmic scale, where mortal concepts of morality were trivial.
Let the King of Hell judge those matters.
Xavier felt a slight relief knowing that, so far, no Saiyan had displeased Lord Beerus.
"Eh?"
Seemingly noticing Xavier’s gaze, Beerus's golden eyes shifted towards him. When he noticed Xavier and Merus, a curious smile appeared on his lips.
The power levels of most life forms in the universe were generally low. A fighter like Xavier was rare, and though he concealed his power, to someone like Lord Beerus, such concealment was meaningless.
"Hehe, interesting. To think there are such skilled fighters among these wild monkeys!"
With that, Beerus started walking towards Xavier and Merus.
"Lord Beerus is actually walking over here..."
Xavier felt on the verge of tears. What bad karma had led him to encounter such a formidable deity while simply out shopping?
Locked in by Beerus's aura, Xavier found himself unable to use any techniques, as the space around him felt as if it had solidified.
Beerus approached, resting his chin on his hand, circling Xavier as if a countryman marveling at a fine piece of craftsmanship.
"Young man, your skills are impressive. You know how to conceal your energy, not like those barbaric monkeys who just squander power without any sense of subtlety!"
In the eyes of a God of Destruction, the Saiyans' unrestrained display of energy was like a searchlight in the night, visible from afar, truly the behavior of uncultured brutes!
"Thank you for the compliment, Lord Beerus!"
No sooner had Xavier spoken than he wished he could slap himself. Why had he mentioned Beerus by name?
Sure enough, Beerus’s eyes lit up, intrigued. "You know my name?"
"I once saw a depiction of Lord Beerus during a mission, in an ancient temple on a distant planet..." Xavier had no choice but to fabricate a story, attributing Beerus's known presence to a nonexistent temple.
"Ah, very good, very good!"
Beerus nodded, his mood visibly brightened.
For a deity of his stature, it was plausible to be known and venerated through depictions, though he seldom ventured out.
"Hey, Xavier, what exactly is this strange creature? You seem quite frightened of him," piped up a youthful, innocent voice, suddenly freezing the atmosphere.
Xavier's heart skipped a beat, his entire being tense with anxiety.
