I will never forget seeing that when the director set out to do this he was met with negativity on it, saying it couldn't be done, mainly because of the sheer size of this. Makes sense. This production was MASSIVE! The naysayers thought this would have to be more cgi/cartoon (as it was done previously). He did such an amazing job at actually putting this together.

2022-08-04 19:21:56 +0000 UTCwell, the reason the uruk hai looks so good is because they are not vfx/cgi, they are just actors in masks and costumes

2020-09-01 22:47:28 +0000 UTCAs someone who owns but has never actually watched the extended editions, this was a nice excuse to do so. I can't afford to patronise the channel every month. However I made an exception this month to get the LOTR videos unedited. Looking forward to #3 on Sunday. ggwp.
2020-05-21 18:27:43 +0000 UTCNew here, can't wait for the next one... oooffff

2020-05-16 18:10:02 +0000 UTCAfter all of the times I've watched this, and only this time do I notice Eomer's sword falling out of his scabbard when he mounts his horse.

2020-05-16 16:55:09 +0000 UTCCalm down. It's because of Dropbox's preview system. There are no edits. You have to add the video to your Dropbox in order to see the whole thing. Or use the Google Drive link.

2020-05-13 11:14:16 +0000 UTCIt's only an hour because it's the Dropbox preview, which will only show the first hour of any video that's longer. You need to either save to your Dropbox account or direct download to get the full video.

2020-05-13 09:25:37 +0000 UTCFor some reason the first link is only an hour for me. But the second is nearly 4 hours and the whole thing. That's probably what happened.

2020-05-13 03:14:08 +0000 UTCWhat exactly do you think he edited out? There's some cuts in the discussion at the end but it will have been the removal of awkward pauses. I don't remember anything being taken out of the film.

2020-05-12 05:34:02 +0000 UTCThe amount of care put into this production in every aspect is mind boggling. Seriously amazing film making. Gollum remains as one of the best digital characters on film even today.

2020-05-10 03:42:57 +0000 UTCI have so much respect for Andy Serkis (Gollum). That dude put on a full motion capture suit and crawled around in freezing cold rivers for basically the entire production and his performance is so good that he completely brings the character to life. If you're interested in directing or film production, I'd highly recommend the special features. Most of them can be found on YouTube. Love Samwise in this one too. I basically cry like a baby every time he gives the "There's still some good left in this world" speech. Sean Astin is a treasure.

2020-05-08 23:46:24 +0000 UTCGollum/smeagol was amazing. I had forgotten about the boromor/Faramir flashback - it was a really good bit of backstory. I can’t believe it’s been 20 years since these came out. Wow i feel ol

2020-05-08 22:17:48 +0000 UTCI loved the two towers! The book was better than the movie though. I absolutely hated how they changed Faramir's character in the movie. In the book, he was never tempted to take the ring at all. I loved that about him and he became one of my favorite characters because of that. I was so disappointed when they changed it in the movies. Also, did you notice that the director Peter Jackson made a cameo in the movie? He was in the battle of helm's deep and threw a spear at an orc! Personally though, my favorite character is Aragorn. I absolutely loved his character both in the books and in the movies. I actually think that both Frodo and Aragorn had it the hardest in the books and movies. I also loved the the ents and the theme of nature vs. industrialism( the ents vs saruman and his war making machines). It was a theme that was portrayed very well in both the books and the movies. Plus, all of the charges into battle that the characters did in the movie were awesome! Can't wait to see your reaction do Return of the King!

2020-05-08 21:20:46 +0000 UTCAndy Serkis absolutely threw himself into the role of Gollum. Even though he is a heavily CG'd character most of it is modelled on a physical and emotional performance that leads to a character you can really connect to. He just about ruined his voice during the recording of the films. You should check out some of the behind the scenes stuff. There were hours worth with each extended film that really showed the dedication from every part of the cast and crew. I will always love watching the films though nothing ever quite parallels the complete story if you have read the books. One thing that always hurt me in this one was how they portrayed Faramir who was a favourite of mine in the books. He was always fair and level headed and said from the beginning even if he were to find the One Ring on the side of the road he would not take it. However I understand how impossible it would be to translate everything contained in the books and world into just 3 films. I look forward to the final reaction :)

2020-05-08 19:40:05 +0000 UTCRight timing to watch in Bed before going to sleep! Yaaaay :) BTW if people don't have anything nice to say, why not just shut up about it and let others enjoy the reaction to a movie they like?

2020-05-08 17:37:17 +0000 UTCBTW Gandalf was sent back by his "CEO", so to speak. The movies never really explain the worldbuilding lore, unless you read the Silmarillion, so it's not really spoilers per se. Basically his boss is the literal creator deity of existence, Eru Iluvatar. He's literally the only one who can control Life & Death, as the supreme deity, so to speak.

2020-05-08 15:50:16 +0000 UTCJust finished the first one last night. Gandalf is as bad as I remember. I dunno if he did more in the book but his magic abilities are pretty sad compared to anyone in harry potter and im not even a fan. not many shows or movies seem to do wizards justice. He did magical fireworks, could make shapes with smoke, make his staff glow, and an energy barrier, a bit of telekinesis or force pushing. The booming voice and darkened surroundings is neat but thats just like an intimidation thing. Wheres the lightning and fireballs etc
