I enjoyed the theme they had going on with the morally gray antagonists and I was hoping they would stick with it even if it made the conflict to resolve a little more complex to write. Unfortunately, it seems like they're making the ringleader some evil mastermind with little-to-no redeeming qualities. At least Ryogi is a lot more compelling than the ringleader/Byakuya Gang itself, so I appreciate the heavy focus on him for this arc. I'm enjoying this arc overall, I'm surprised to hear that people consider this Boruto's worst arc. I like Ryogi's character; I wonder how much he actually cares about the Byakuya Gang's motive (or what we've been told of it so far). From my perspective considering he was initially against it, it seems like he's kind of forcing himself into it to get some validation that his father was working for a noble cause. I actually also agree with most of his criticisms towards Shikadai; it's a very defeatist attitude—out of sight, out of mind type deal. At the same time, I can't slight Shikadai for preferring to keep out of "trouble." There's also the fact that he is just a kid, but kids in the Shinobi world seem to have to grow up fast, so maybe that isn't an excuse in this case? Hard to say.

2021-01-09 00:13:49 +0000 UTCThis was really a sad ass backstory. I do like that the arc is Shikadai focused. Very much highlighting the ‘New Generations’ part of the show title. I honestly really enjoy this arc because it’s so different from what a Shonen show is lol

2021-01-08 18:48:38 +0000 UTCI'm glad your not gonna skip episodes. Even what is considered filler gives some really good character development. I feel like they took more time to make the fillers relevant to the story and not super ridiculous like the whole Mecha Naruto thing and the like in the original.
