Solving a True Crime Case?! | Monogatari Series: Off & Monster Episode 9 REACTION

Yeah I'd say it's pretty likely, but could take a while. Though I don't like to say for sure until it's officially confirmed.

I think one would be genuinely delusional to think they would come back to the anime adaptation after such a long time, call it "Off & Monster Season" and then only do these 4 arcs. That is almost self-evidently not gonna be the case. Nadeko Draw literally ends with a "Please look forward to Nadeko Sengoki Sensei's next work". And while I don't want to spoil, Shinobumonogatari certainly isn't the kind of arc anyone would ever end the series on (not saying it's bad, I love the arc, I just mean it isn't a "finale" arc in any capacity and isn't meant to be either.). We will get more. It is not question of "if". It is a question of "when"

Now that we've reached the final arc of Off & Monster, it might be fun to know the differences in novel order to anime order this time around. As of now, there has been no official announcement that the anime will continue nor that the books will continue to be translated to English (the novels only translated up to Zoku). There is supposedly another novel in the works in Japanese. So, Off & Monster Season anime went: Orokamonogatari (Tsukihi Undo), followed by Nademonogatari (Nadeko Draw), then Wazamonogatari (Cruel Fairy Tale and Acerola Bon Appétit), and finally Shinobumonogatari (Shinobu Mustard/Mastered) In the novels, Off Season started with Orokamonogatari, which had three arcs: the first two were skipped entirely and the third is Tsukihi Undo. Then there was Wazamonogatari, which consists of Cruel Fairy Tale and Acerola Bon Appétit, plus two more arcs that were skipped. Then Nademonogatari, which was just one arc, Nadeko Draw. Then Musubimonogatari, four arcs, skipped entirely. Shinobumonogatari (one arc) is the first book of Monster Season, which has five more books after that. Then there's Family Season, which only has one book for now. There's also Mijikanamonogatari, a collection of short stories that have been published elsewhere and also a few new ones. This is the most recent book release, September 2024. I read a few fan translations of some of these stories back in the day, and Nadeko Draw's chapter title cards adapted Nadeko Pool. Basically it was a short from Nadeko's "Flirty Nadeko" era, where she goes with Araragi out to a public pool. I remember you getting jumpscared by Nadeko's swimsuit in those title cards so I'll share this quote from Araragi in Nadeko Pool: "Nadeko's swimsuit was so small that simply looking at her felt like I was committing a crime." This book also contains "Koyomi History," which got a four minute OVA after Koyomimonogatari for the Madomonogatari exhibition. I've read some estimates that to adapt the rest of Off & Monster seasons at the episode to page number rate they're adapting them now, there would need to be another ~50 episodes. So basically, 4 more cours. I reiterate that there is no official confirmation that there will be any more monogatari anime, so it's possible that it may never come.

Araragi showing up in hana was definitely a shock, but if Im remembering correctly he was wearing some pretty edgelord clothes, whereas here he's dressed much more normally.

Shinobumonogatari/Shinobu Mastered is the first arc of Monster Season, all the other arcs of the adaptation have been Off Season so far. In the novel order, there was indeed quite a lot of time in between Acerola Bon Appetit and this one, 2 whole books worth in fact. About the arc name, I already said the name earlier but it is actually Shinobu MASTERED, not Mustard. Mastered obviously referring to Shinobu's MASTER, Suicide-Master, playing a role in the arc. It also sounding like "Mustard" when spelt in katakana (masutado) is at best a dumb pun Nisioisin found funny, but certainly should not actually be made the main translation of the arc title. It is a translation choice I am genuinely very annoyed with. Also, you don't seem to have remembered but Higasa is a character that was introduced in Hanamonogatari. She even showed up in that final graduation frame of Owarimonogatari Season 2 in which she was holding the crying Kanbaru back from jumping on her leaving Senpais lol.
