saki is aoi's first name. also i think the show was saying that her mom left her. it has never said that she died. as far as working far from home. i think that's okay for parents but they must still be taking care of their children. like making sure they are in constant contact and if they are going somewhere where they can't be in contact for a while let them no. like "hey imma be on the research ship for like a month but we will talk when i can again." We saw that there was several messages from Saki that her dad didnt respond too. But i believe he should have taken a different position like being a professor or working in a lab. also i think he didn't leave bc the research couldn't go on without him, it looked like he just wanted to see this whale or whatever was happening. and i dont think with aoi's love that its "oh my family needs me so i'll put senpai on hold for now." its that "why am i not obsessing over him like grandma did over grandpa or dad does over his work." I don't think aoi's mental is strong at all. We are seeing cracks. This episode was called wound, but was it about her physical wound or the mental ones that keep pilling on her? I think she has some serious abandonment issues. but these are just my opinions.
