So, I guess I thought we were safe. It was a Christmas episode, nothing bad (well, nothing too bad) happens at Christmas. Talk about a false sense of security. Things suddenly became more and more serious until that was it, it's over, and all too quickly. I feel like I'm getting "used" to the regenerations now. I feel differently about them. I feel that although I am sad, and I will miss our Doctors, I also want to celebrate how wonderful they were and how much we loved them. And, several regenerations later, I very much now realise it's still our Doctor - just different. It will never be something I welcome (unless I really don't like a Doctor haha) but I also feel so grateful for the time we had with our Doctor when they were there. That's kind of how I feel now.... It won't ever be any less sad, mind you! But I feel happier with this way of thinking, which only comes in time once I got "used" to the whole process.

I will miss the 11th Doctor endlessly... He was magnificent.

Comments

Oh, Amy.... We are so blessed she came back, even for a moment πŸ’œ

Doctor Who never seems to stop surprising me with new bests, firsts, and favorites. Matt Smith's is my favorite regeneration. I love his contemplative speech, I love the Raggedy Man callback, the whole shebang. [deleted my thoughts and comments on Capaldi, better to wait for you to watch a bunch. he's an incredible actor but I have both good and bad things to say about the season] Kidneys!

Paul Hess

It's been 11 and half years since this episode first aired, and to this day I bawl like a baby when Amy turns up. "Raggedy Man... good night." Every. Single. Time.

Michael Jones

Such a great episode for Matt Smith to bow out on and sucks handles had to go too but I'm looking forward to see your reactions to 12's era, my personal favourite Doctor!

Luxx_67

Yes, Smith was a great Doctor. Capaldi is 1 of my favorites. Should go back and watch Tennant episode involving Pompeii. Will, probably say more on YT edit. Okay, back to Alice Madness Returns.

"Talk very fast. Hope something good happens. Take the credit. Generally that's how it works." - The 11th Doctor

Nebraska

"On the fields of Trenzalore, at the fall of the eleventh. When no living creature can speak falsely or fail to answer, a question will be asked. A question that must never ever be answered." - Dorium in 'The Wedding of River Song'. Dorium told us all about this episode and we didn't even know it yet. The quote "Because what's the point in them being happy now if they're going to be sad later? The answer is, of course, because they are going to be sad later." from 'The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe' seems so connected to the 50th anniversary specials when you think about it. You watch 'The Day of the Doctor' and you're so happy, past Doctors and a (sort of) companion coming back, Gallifrey coming back, it's literally a whole celebration of the first 50 years of the show. Then, you get to the very next episode 'The Time of the Doctor' and by the end of it you're crying with sadness as 11 is regenerating. If that quote from 'The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe' doesn't perfectly sum up these 2 episodes, I don't know what else does. Handles is officially the longest companion to the Doctor. He was with him for 300 years. Sure, the Doctor has met a companion and still seen them hundreds of years later (like with Amy) but he wasn't with them for all those years. Whereas with Handles, he was. Also, the regeneration is so quick because it was basically fully completed. He had a full on regeneration to change to his younger form. 10 only had to heal a few scars, 11 had to completely deage every cell to reset himself. So, the regeneration was already like 90% done. So it makes sense to be so sudden. Also fun fact, Matt Smith and Karen Gillan both had wigs on during that final scene. Karen was filming for 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and Matt was filming for 'Lost River' and both required short/bald cuts. They were very annoyed with themselves for not thinking to film a blooper where they do the scene in each other's wigs.

Matt's speech at the end is a killer, it's so good! It's such a good episode and also fantastic round up of his time on the show, a beautiful ending. Goodbye bowtie :(

I love that there is so much love for the 12th Doctor! I've read comments here and there about Doctor Who not being very good anymore, but it seems I'm still in the "good" part πŸ˜…πŸ₯° I do try not to pay too much attention to negative comments as I want to form my own opinions, but I've not been disappointed yet!

Incredible to know! It really does feel like a "Golden Era". Everything is incredible. I've just been loving it, and it just gets better every series!

Juliette Gaming

Ooh, did Matt Smith decide to leave and not renew his contract? I get it - you don't want to be lumped as The Doctor throughout your whole career - but it would have been really awesome to see what else was planned... One last Geronimo 😭

Juliette Gaming

I just thought it was a bald cap haha!! That definitely would have been easier for the crew!

Juliette Gaming

Interestingly, Matt Smith wore a wig for this episode, as he had a buzzcut for a film with Ryan Gosling. So when you saw the Doctor bald it was probably a far easier make up job to pull off. To make it even more weird, Karen Gillan was also wearing a wig as Amy, as she was also nearly bald, as she was filming for Guardians of the Galaxy. Probably the baldest episode of the whole show!

Chris Green

Oh no... Sometimes this happens as there can be many different versions out there. I have heard the iPlayer one is the same speed as the one I'm watching. I am watching via Stan in Australia.

Juliette Gaming

i cant sync with the full version it is going faster what is wrong with it :D

Delighted to see you are entering into the next Doctor; and the bittersweet ending of his character here is one of the craziest we get, with almost 3 seasons worth of story flowing into one last story. I’m not sure if others have mentioned, but essentially this last episode was originally planned as an entire series in his head by Steven Moffat, and so when Matt Smith announced his departure, he had to think on his feet and reduce it somewhat. However, I feel this was the perfect way to tie everything together; and seeing your heartfelt reaction really was heartwarming and bittersweet to see how attached we get to each Doctor. I eagerly await the next episode, and can’t wait to find out all your thoughts on the stores to come in the future. We’re with you on this journey and proud to be here. One last Geronimo! Goodbye, dear Eleventh. And now onto The Twelfth…

Mikey Sams-Barnes

Twelve’s here!!! My co-favorite Doctor, can’t wait to see what you think

Half way through what I consider to be the golden era of NuWho, which for me starts halfway through series 4 and runs through to the end of the Moffat era. Ive been watching since Pertwee (3rd) and for me much of this part of the modern era rivals and even exceeds much of Classic and sits comfortably alongside its best.

Jason

This episode, in my opinion, really manages to tie together the 11th doctors era into one last adventure. Bringing back the story threads of Silence / "silence will fall", the crack in time, the Kovarian Chapter (led by madam kovarian in series 6), the oldest question hiding in plain sight and of course Trenzalore. The Regen scene itself is one of my favorites of the doctors. Partly due to Matt's speech of change and respecting who you've been and taking that into the you that you will grow into in the future. And also partly due to Murray Gold's soundtrack that quite frankly is just so beautifully stitched together from different themes. And now we enter the era of the 12th doctor who is probably my favorite of the modern Doctors. I genuinely can not wait to see how you feel about his era. You have also seen the actor before as he appeared in the series 4 episode the fires of Pompeii alongside 10 and Donna (as well as a pre Amy Pond Karen Gillan). Now we have an end of an era. Or to put it another way "this song is ending, but the story never ends".
