Doctor Who 7x8 The Rings of Akhaten Reaction

I am wearing the most perfect Doctor Who dress! Stars everywhere!

This episode feels like Doctor Who to me. An epic adventure, saving the day in the BEST way, and a gorgeous speech. There’s also singing, an amazing alien market, and Clara is just so good in this one. I feel this episode has really proved her worth as a companion. She made all the right choices. A good start!

Doctor Who 7x8 The Rings of Akhaten Reaction

Lovely episode and so nice that the doctor finally gets to release some of grief he's had bottled up inside, also such a beautiful song sung by the queen of years🥲

Luxx_67

I'm glad you liked it! 😊

Oliver

As Andy said, the first three are well worth a watch if you've not seen them before Juliette (the first three meaning episodes 4-6, not 1-3). Rogue One is also great, but the others... not so much.

I was gonna mention this. I love it. Also during lockdown, there was a super popular rewatch of several episodes of the series. Loads of people on twitter would watch the episode at the same time and live tweet about it with a hashtag. Even directors, writers and actors got involved and gave BtS info througout the episode. Was great!

Absolutely one of my favorite episodes. Even the intro is so heartfelt, and i love the choral singing, and the doctors speech just everythin about this episode is so emotionally packed.

Neil your so right and Jules, never watched Star Wars?? Top of the list for those first three!!

Andy Luke

Loved your reacting to it. I caught something on rewatch too that links into the mystery. Maybe it's a tangent but a leaf and the circumstances of that one are unique. Their own design. And I'm thinking of another motif of unique design and shape we've associated with Clara, albeit a different colour... Akhaten did have Ahsoka incredible singing, costume, lots of fun. The rewatch with you tempts me to make a video about why it's incredibly fantastic.

Andy Luke

i love your doctor who dress

Mert Sanli

This is a beautiful ep to react to on the 20th anniversary of NuWho.

Fraser Lindsay

I love this so much!

I really enjoyed it!! I found it to be personally satisfying, and a great episode to show Clara's potential as a companion. She was willing to give up both her ring AND leaf in order to help others. What more can you ask for when it comes to a selfless companion 🥹

LEMMINGS!!! I love that game! I read Beano, but mostly the "girls" ones, so Judy, Bunty etc... LOVE!

Juliette Gaming

I adore his clothes! He always looks spiffy!

Neil 💜 I haven't watched Star Wars, but even so I've played some of the games and yes, this definitely had those vibes! It reminds me of a place I went in a game actually, getting dyes for my outfit! All sorts of different races and species, coming together. It's lovely!!

Wow.... this is gorgeous. Thank you, so much, for sharing this with me. It is a beautiful song, but to see THIS version brings tears to my eyes. The unity, the togetherness, the distance, the uncertainty, the HOPE, that this shows during that awful time. Doctor Who brought so many together and this is so, so perfect.

Yes, those are Amy's glasses

I often watch reactions last thing at night so don't always get to reply but I wanted to write now I look forward to yours. Everyone loved the speech but the rest had a very mixed reception. Critically panned but all those people are wrong and I will fight anyone who slights it with bare knuckles. The song was Murray Gold GOLD, for people who can't afford the prom. The leaf? One man challenging a god with a leaf and winning: that's the whole bloody point! The bloody point! Space vampires, Marxist uprising, weird space goblin markets selling fruit, (hello Christina Rossetti reference), and flyer bikes. I know you'll love Akhaten because you have good taste and awareness.

Andy Luke

I will do this. Thank you for the link.

I fell in love with comics as a child reading grandparents' Sunday Post. Oor Wullie and The Broons set me on a path to making comics.

The Beano (and also The Dandy) come from Dundee, Scotland, just a 20 minute drive from where I live. Other things that also originate in Dundee that you may of heard of are The Adhesive Postage Stamp Marmalade Computer Games - Lemmings and the Grand Theft Auto Series

What do you think of the Doctor’s new outfit this season, with the longer burgundy jacket?

Adinium

Did anyone else get a strong Star Wars vibe when the Doctor & Clara were walking through the market with all the different aliens? Really enjoyed your reaction Juliette, thanks as always.

So now you know The Long Song and finally I can tell you about this little video: In 2020, when many suffered during the CoViD-Lockdowns, someone from Doctor Who Magazine organised a cover version of the Long Song, with a choir of more than 300 fans who recorded themselves at home, singing to a playback. Everything was professionally mixed and here's the result, I think you should definitely watch it, with or without reacting to it: https://youtu.be/zGNrKMiwzAw (Make sure to listen to the very end, there is an acapella version during the titles) I just re-watched it myself and remembered what an amazing sign of connectedness during those days of isolation and utter uncertainty it was.

Oliver

Absolutely!! His speech was beautiful... He and Buffy must have went to the same class 🤣

Juliette Gaming

The leaf thing is a little bit cheesy haha but I also think it's romantic and cute, so it gets a pass from me 😅

Juliette Gaming

I must admit that I find it hard to get past the ridiculousness of the leaf and how Clara's dad gushes about it being the most important leaf in the world, as well as how it helped resolved the plot. Even for Doctor Who it seems bizarre that they played something so over the top and mockable straight like that. Not that there isn't a lot of good as well like the Doctor's speech, plus the first outright mention in the revival of the Doctor's granddaughter (one of the original companions and the first to leave, with the actress now being the only survivor of the initial main cast) though she was alluded to way back in the Empty Child when the Doctor is able to relate to Dr Constantine no longer being a father or grandfather.

Alice Summers

I love the Doctor's speech in this episode. Matt Smith really sells the characters age ❤️
